There’s a fresh SUV upset today! The Nissan Rogue shatters expectations by beating the Toyota RAV4. Simply asking, how reliable is the 2024 Nissan Rogue led to shocking results against the popular RAV4.

How reliable is the 2024 Nissan Rogue?

According to J.D.Power, the 2024 Nissan Rogue has a reliability rating of 83 out of 100, which is an above-average score. Scores between 70 and 80 are average while scores between 81 and 90 are above average.

Each vehicle is assigned a 100-point score based on hundreds of thousands of independent and unbiased opinions of verified car owners.

A survey is sent out, allowing owners to report the level of defects, malfunctions, and design flaws they experienced. Everything from the paint to the engine, transmission, and electronics is included.

But how does the 2024 Toyota RAV4 compare? It has a reliability rating of 74 out of 100. So, the Rogue sits nine points ahead. So, more people reported RAV4 problems than Rogue problems.

But if you look at the ratings for reliability for previous years, the RAV4’s score actually dropped from 88 points in 2018 to 76 points in 2019, when the current generation launched. The newer models may not be as reliable as they used to be.

Meanwhile, the Rogue has been improving. It had a score of 73 in 2019 and then earned an 83 in 2020. It jumped up to 86 in 2024.

However, more people own the Toyota RAV4. In 2023 the RAV4 sold 434,943 units and the Rogue moved 271,458. That’s a difference of 163,476 SUVs. Does having more models on the road lead to more reported problems?

Both of these SUVs have a pretty similar lifespan. The Rogue and RAV4 are both expected to last between 200,000 to 250,000 miles, but more examples of the RAV4 have surpassed 300,000 miles.

If you drive an average of 15,000 miles per year, then your RAV4 or Rogue could provide about 16 years on the road. Of course, proper care and regular maintenance are the keys to longevity.

So by asking how reliable the 2024 Nissan Rogue is, I’ve discovered that it outranks the RAV4. Also, these vehicles have been going in opposite directions. Maybe it’s time to consider the Rogue over the RAV4.
