If you were to judge a book by its cover, you might assume the GMC Sierra to be a more quality truck. Historically, GMC trucks have positioned themselves as the more luxurious or plushier trucks, especially with the Denali trims.

When it comes to interior creature comforts, one might assume then that Sierra’s offer superb features. But when CNET says, “the only bummer about Sierra is its interior,” some consumers might have second thoughts. So, how nice is the GMC Sierra interior design? We opted for a closer look to find out.

Better than average standards & configuration

The Sierra offers a host of configuration options and standard features with each. It’s impressive, really. Regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab layouts are available, as are cloth or leather-trimmed interiors. Enjoy Teen Driver and 7-inch touch screen standard. Choose to add a sunroof, remote start, 120-volt power outlet, adaptive cruise, Bose sound systems, and more. One Kelley Blue Book comment also complimented Sierra’s legroom and cabin spaciousness. Even the middle rear-seat passengers are comfortable. We also found other reviews discussing the quiet cabin ride of Sierra, as well.

Quality & interior feel

You can expect quality interior materials inside the Sierra. However, per one comment from Edmunds, despite the soft-touch feel and nice textures, the Sierra feels ‘monolithic’ and ‘monochromatic.’ They even joke that it’s like driving an artifact. We’re finding that while the basics are nice, the Sierra is merely keeping up and not impressing everyone.

Tools, tech, & connectivity

Inside the Sierra, drivers are completely plugged in. Sierra is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible and standard. This truck doesn’t fall short in plenty of other standard and available tech comforts, either. Reviews suggest the infotainment system works well, with either the 7-inch touchscreen or 8-inch screen. The center stack controls are easy to reach, simple to navigate, and superbly responsive.

Available safety features are awesome, as well. Drivers can choose trims that include heads-up display, surround-view parking camera, safety alert seats that vibrate, forward collision warnings, and more.

Additional note if the standard Teen Driver feature is new to you: This control allows you to set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers. It can be handy if you have teen drivers.

Does Sierra offer more than Silverado, Ram, or F-150?

In the big picture, Sierra’s interior is considered top-notch and well within the competitive contention of the others in its space. However, some reviewers suggest Sierra isn’t offering a ‘wow factor,’ and in some cases, it is outdone in luxury by Ram 1500. When comparing the best trim levels of each, Sierra is almost identical on the inside as the Silverado. If you’re looking fantastic luxury, however, reviews are suggesting the Ram is far superior.

Does Sierra have a nice interior?

Sierra’s interior design, feel, and connectivity is very nice. You’re not going to be disappointed sitting behind the wheel. However, based on reviews, you just might not be ‘wowed’ by the interior. You and your ride-along passengers will all be comfortable, have plenty of room, and quality controls.

There is word circulating that GMC has been listening to the critics, especially when it comes to the Sierra interior design. Consumers might see some big upgrades for 2021. If you’re looking to buy a truck and interior comforts matter, you won’t be disappointed with Sierra. But, if you’re looking to be impressed and moved with luxury layout, maybe sit tight and see what 2021 Sierras have to offer.
