The Subaru Crosstrek has some amazing ads about being super safe and reliable. You can hand your keys to your kids when they grow up. How sweet.

However, don’t let this emotion gloss over its actual features. While The Subaru Crosstrek is a great SUV, it also has a few disappointing aspects. 

Disappointing Subaru Crosstrek Features 

The Subaru Crosstrek starts around $22k, making it a price-friendly option. It’s great for those who want a spacious SUV that doesn’t require their new vehicle to have much performance. 

For example, the Crosstrek is pretty weak. It only has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. 

So, the Subaru Crosstrek can only tow up to 1,500 lb. If you want an SUV to pull your boat or camper, consider at the Kia Sorrento instead. 

How The Subaru Crosstrek Rides 

Plus, it’s lack of power gives it a sad acceleration. It takes 9.2 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. At that pace, it’s more of a Grandma wagon instead of a newer popular option. 

Also, the Crosstrek is only available in all-wheel drive. We would like to see true 4×4 capabilities in an SUV marketed toward adventuring. 

Another huge disappointment for fans includes the Crosstrek’s lack of comfort. The seats are found as stiff and lacking lumbar support. This can be an issue during road trips or long commutes. 

On top of uncomfortable seats, the Crosstrek seems to be a bit noisy. As you push it to accelerate quickly or go up hills, you may notice a loud groaning from the engine. However, that groan means that your Crosstrek is trying it’s best to meet your demands. 

Also, people find that early on, around 3,000 miles or so, mysterious rattling emerges from within the dashboard.

Plus, the steering feels quite stiff with a hard suspension. You would expect the Crosstrek to have a smooth, responsive ride instead. 

There are even complaints with the electronics. The options seem clustered together, making what you need to find on the infotainment center challenging. 

Subaru Crosstrek Positives 

However, not everything about the Crosstrek is negative. For its low price, it has an outstanding fuel economy. It can get up to 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. 

It’s also quite roomy on the inside. There is up to 22.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and up to 121.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. 

Because the Crosstrek has raised handrails on the roof, it allows you to store more items on the roof. 

It has an excellent ground clearance of 8.7” for going over obstacles but isn’t too tall. People find it easy to load items in the trunk without the use of a power liftgate. 

Best of all, the Subaru Crosstrek is solid. It has a steel frame to enhance safety and sustainability. Meaning it will last longer and be safer in the event of an accident.
