The Ford Ranger made its return to provide Ford fans with a midsize option. However, something just seemed to be missing. The new Ranger was a good start but needed improvements in a few different areas. Now the 2022 Ford Ranger may fix a few of its issues.

The 2022 Ford Ranger will have new improvements

Car and Driver found a few spy shots that show a new redesign. While camouflage is heavily covering the truck, the images still provide a few clues about what to expect, including a new look.

The 2022 Ford Ranger is getting a redesign. It seems a little early for a refresh, but a new look is needed. When the 2019 Ford Ranger came out, it looked a little soft. The narrow headlights and sloping, curve design are reminiscent of the Honda Ridgeline.

The Ford Ranger just looks a little too soft. People commenting on the Maverick Truck Club forum agree.

One member said, “I’m liking the direction & agree with everyone else. Better than the Ranger’s front end. Nice & squared off makes it a bit more masculine. Aftermarket options will allow change of that grill if one wanted. Let’s hope it doesn’t have the ugly avalanche style wings from the cab to the bed.”

From the photos, you can see a more squared-off front end for a more attractive and confident look, with new C-shaped headlines like the ones on the updated Ford F-150. Two large bars will most likely connect the lights across the grille. The new Ranger is riding on black wheels, and the taillights look a bit thinner too.

The 2022 Ranger is getting a new interior

According to Edmunds, the 2020 Ford Ranger has a lacking interior. The seats are hard to adjust for comfort, the rear seats are a little too upright, and storage space is limited with small cubbies and a tiny center console. Also, the infotainment system and button layout seemed to be frustrating.

But the new Ranger should have a larger touchscreen with the new Ford Sync 4 infotainment system. The current model has an 8-inch screen, but the F-150 offers a massive 12-inch unit.

Perhaps the Ranger will also adopt some noise-canceling technology and a better suspension to reduce cabin noise. This may also help the stiff and bumpy ride. But they may have to get creative to improve the storage room.

Will the Ranger have more power?

The Ford Ranger isn’t exactly a weak truck, but it can’t keep up with off-roaders like the Jeep Gladiator or Toyota Tacoma. The 2022 Ranger will probably keep its 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

It can tow up to 7,500 lb, so it is a great workhorse. But it doesn’t have a high-performance off-roading model in the United States. Maybe Ford Ranger Raptor from other global markets will finally come to America.

The Ranger Raptor is expected to use the 2.7-liter town-turbo V6 engine with 320 hp that’s currently found in the 201 Ford Bronco. This would add an exciting amount of muscle to compete against rivals.
