As passionate car enthusiasts, we love to see automakers that push the boundaries of what’s possible for cars. However, with the confines of physics, there are limits. This is not the case in the world of cartoons, though. Anything is possible with a cartoon car. Check out the five best cartoon cars of all time.

5. The Mach 5, Speed Racer

The animation for Speed Racer wasn’t the greatest, and the English translation from the Japanese original was often out of sync with the action. However, what Speed Racer did have was a spectacular cartoon car with the Mach 5. According to Car and Driver, the inspiration for the Mach 5 may have come from a combination of cars from two 1964 movies: the Elva in Elvis Presley’s Viva Las Vegas and the Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger.

4. Flintstone Mobile, The Flintstones

The next spot on our list of best cartoon cars of all time is the Flintstone Mobile from The Flintstones. It’s by far the most primitive car on the list, which can be expected for a show that takes place in the Stone Age. The Flintstone Mobile has no suspension or doors, and it’s powered by the feet of Fred Flintstone. However, it met the needs of the Flintstone family.

3. The Jetsons’ Flying Car, The Jetsons

The most futuristic car on our list of best cartoon cars of all time is The Jetsons’ Flying Car from The Jetsons. George Jetson’s Flying Car is very fast yet versatile and practical, with the ability to fold into a compact attaché case. We’ll see if we’ll have a real flying car that we can drive to work in the future.  

2. The Homer, The Simpsons

The appearance of The Homer cartoon car on The Simpsons was very brief, for it was only on one episode during season two of the series. However, The Homer made a lasting impression on many people. Charged with designing a car for his half-brother Herb Powell and Powell Motors, Homer Simpson creates The Homer, a ridiculous car with three horns, two domes, massive cupholders, and a hefty price tag of $82,000.

1. The Mystery Machine, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Our top pick for the best cartoon car of all time is The Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! On their various adventures of catching crooks and encountering ghosts, Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphne always had The Mystery Machine to transport them. The bright-colored van was dependable and lasted many years. Also, with its spacious interior, it was the perfect atmosphere for Scooby and Shaggy to party.

In addition to the five best cartoon cars of all time, we have some honorable mentions. This includes Lightning McQueen (Cars), Batmobile (Super Friends), The Mean Machine (Wacky Races), Gadgetmobile (Inspector Gadget), Bumblebee (Transformers), Ecto-1 (The Real Ghostbusters), The Jack Rabbit Special (Hot Wheels), and Speed Buggy (Speed Buggy).
