The animation for Speed Racer wasn’t the greatest, and the English translation from the Japanese original was often out of sync with the action. However, what Speed Racer did have was a spectacular cartoon car with the Mach 5. According to Car and Driver, the inspiration for the Mach 5 may have come from a combination of cars from two 1964 movies: the Elva in Elvis Presley’s Viva Las Vegas and the Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger.
