Back in February, Netflix announced that it had ordered Shane Gillis’s comedy series Tires. The preview clip, which Netflix released on X this morning, is below. The show’s styling and dialogue have fans wondering if Danny McBride is linked to the series in some way.

The show will follow Will (Steven Gerben), the “nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain,” as he “attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Gillis).”

While a McBride cameo or full cast member role would be a hit, the original YouTube pilot was a small production. In 2019, Gillis, Gerben, and John McKeever were the creators. It also starred Gillis and Gerben.

At a minimum, Eastbound & Down founder Danny McBride’s comedic influences are apparent in Tires. The show will also feature Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox, and Stavros Halkias, with guest appearances by Andrew Schulz.

For those familiar with the cast, some of this group are known for their crass satire. Often, you’ll hear vulgarity used to get a rise out of the audience.

The Office and its comedic adjacents are also clear influences, shown by the awkwardness of quiet-set scenes filled with multiple characters subjected to strange or uneasy corporate interactions.

I can definitely picture Stavvy laughing his head off at the lines in the Netflix preview. I’m curious to see what other situations Shane Gillis and crew will present and how relatable they’ll be to my time in the shop. Unfortunately, I can’t say I haven’t ever heard the kind of remarks in the preview or the 2019 pilot, at least.

The show premiers on May 23.
