For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Nissan Frontier has received a major update. With the 2022 Nissan Frontier, buyers get a truck that is nearly all-new, which may be why this mid-size truck has been selling so well. The 2022 Frontier is now the second-best-selling mid-size truck in America, second only to the 2022 Toyota Tacoma. And the SV trim of this truck may be the best bang for your buck. So, what is the Nissan Frontier SV and should you buy it?

What is the Nissan Frontier SV?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier SV is a tier above the base Nissan Frontier S. It is available with rear or four-wheel drive, making it a fairly capable truck. Additionally, this pickup comes standard with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that makes 310 horsepower and 281 pound-foot of torque. This gives the 2022 Frontier a leg up on other mid-size trucks that make you pay extra for the power given by six cylinders.

When properly equipped, the 2022 Nissan Frontier SV can tow up to 6,670 lbs and haul up to 1,610 lbs in payload. Because of this, the Frontier SV is a mid-size truck with legitimate utility.

How much does the 2022 Frontier SV cost?

The Nissan Frontier SV has a starting MSRP of $31,390. And while that cost does push the Frontier over $30,000, it is still relatively affordable for what you get. There are two cab options and even a long bed configuration which will help you to meet your needs.

In terms of technology and convenience, the Frontier SV is a mid-size pickup that comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen that boasts Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Buyers can also opt for various tech and safety packages, some of which add things like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. Those in colder climates may also want to outfit their truck with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier worth buying?

According to MotorTrend, the Nissan Frontier is second only to the Toyota Tacoma in terms of sales. Cleary, Nissan has done something right with the updates it has made to its mid-size truck. For almost 20 years, the Frontier went without any major updates. But now, that has changed, the 2022 Frontier may ride on an older frame but it is certainly more refined than the outgoing model.

Changes include a standard V6 engine, but there are also changes that may not be as attractive for buyers. The Nissan Frontier does not have a manual transmission anymore, meaning that buyers who want a manual mid-size truck need to look to the Toyota Tacoma or Jeep Gladiator.

The 2022 Frontier now offers a nine-speed automatic transmission that delivers smooth power and shifting. So, although the Frontier no longer has hand-made shifts, its automatic transmission is competent enough. And that is something that you can experience for around $30,000 in the Nissan Frontier SV pickup truck.
