Shopping for a compact truck? If you are interested in the 2022 Ford Maverick, you may have noticed that it is not the easiest vehicle to buy. Due to supply constraints and mainstream interest, Ford was forced to place a temporary pause on customer orders of the Maverick. And that means that you cannot currently buy one unless you find one at a dealership.

Even those who have already ordered this compact pickup have been in the dark on their Maverick. Some orders placed in 2022 may wind up being 2023 models.

Can you buy the 2022 Ford Maverick?

Right now, buying a Maverick truck only feels impossible. Customer orders are closed until August of this year, forcing buyers to track this pickup down at a dealership. And buying a 2022 Ford Maverick at a dealership is a difficult task in and of itself.

That does not mean everyone has been so unlucky. Plenty of folks have been able to order the 2022 Maverick before the pause was put in place. But now, it is unclear if the truck you purchased will be a 2022 model or a 2023 model.

If your order has not yet been scheduled, according to Ford Authority, you will likely have to wait until the 2023 model year. And that may be a disappointment to some. If you are curious about the status of your order, the automaker suggests reaching out to your local dealership.

Should you buy the Ford Maverick?

If you are interested in a compact truck, competing with what the Maverick offers is no easy task. This truck costs around $20,000 for the base model, which means it competes with compact cars and crossovers more than larger trucks.

Plus, the 2022 Maverick is a small truck that comes with a standard hybrid powertrain. Some have even reported getting up to 50mpg from the Maverick under certain conditions. But, that is certainly on the high-end of what this vehicle can do. The turbocharged engine is not as efficient as the hybrid engine, but it means more power and capability.

When will the 2023 Ford Maverick go on sale?

Orders for the 2023 Maverick are expected to open on August 15th, with production happening later this fall. It is unclear if this newer Maverick will face the same supply issues as the 2022 model, but hopefully, that is not the case. If you want to buy a small truck, not being able to purchase the one you want or having to pay a high markup is certainly a frustrating experience.

Since the Maverick is still a new pickup, there probably will not be huge changes for the 2023 model. But, there have been rumors of a PHEV model or even a Ford Maverick ST being released. Both of those are exciting prospects.

If Ford was able to add all-wheel drive to the hybrid model, that would likely make this compact pickup even more popular than it already is. Even though some Maverick buyers are currently in the dark about the status of their order.
