The Ford Maverick Hybrid is easily one of the most unique small pickup trucks on the market. From its unibody construction to its standard hybrid powertrain, there’s no small truck quite like the Maverick. Many drivers assume that the Ford Maverick isn’t as tough as other Blue Oval pickup trucks but the tiny truck is much more capable than people realize.

The Ford Maverick Hybrid is still truck enough for many Americans

What is a pickup truck? The Ford Maverick looks like a pickup truck, but its size, fuel economy, towing capacity, and design are very different from the conventional pickup.

The Maverick may not seem capable enough for some pickup truck drivers, but the small hybrid does surprisingly well at carrying payloads up steep inclines. According to Motor1, a YouTuber loaded a Maverick with an 850-pound load and headed uphill toward a mountain pass. The driver was able to easily climb the steep hill in the Rocky Mountains mountain range.

The Maverick only lost one average mile per gallon while driving up the steep hill carrying the heavy load. The little truck is tough enough to carry up to 1,512 pounds. It can tow up to 2,000 pounds or 4,000 pounds when equipped with the gas engine and 4K towing package.

The Maverick standard hybrid is truck enough for plenty of drivers, but Ford offers several Maverick configurations to make the small pickup even more capable.

What is the most capable Ford Maverick configuration?

Ford offers an optional gas powertrain for the 2022 Maverick. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive with the EcoBoost engine adds an extra $3,305 to the Maverick’s total price. The 4K Tow Package is only an additional $745.

The Maverick equipped with the EcoBoost engine, all-wheel drive, and 4K towing package is the most capable configuration of the Maverick. The base model’s starting price becomes $25,540 when equipped with the aforementioned add-ons and packages. Not a bad price for all-wheel drive, more power, and better towing capacity.

The Ford Maverick is capable for its size

The Ford Maverick may not be able to tow as much as some midsize pickup trucks, but the small pickup still has enough towing capacity for small cargo trailers, jetskis, dirt bikes, and even some small fishing boats.

When equipped with the gas engine, 4K Towing Package, and all-wheel drive, the Maverick is extremely impressive for its size. Best of all, the Maverick can have the power of a gas guzzler minus the terrible fuel economy. Ford’s tiny pickup truck is changing the way Americans view trucks. It got a near-perfect overall score from Car and Driver.
