The Cadillac Escalade has long been the flagship of Cadillac and General Motors as a whole. For 2022, a number of updates have been made to this full-size SUV. And because of that, it still finds itself at the top of many full-size SUV lists. With its standard 6.2-liter V8 engine, the Escalade even has the ability to deliver on old-school power and torque.

There are a number of factors that go into making the new Escalade a solid pick for a luxury SUV. These include things like standard lane-keep assist and lane-departure warning. Additionally, available features such as air suspension, soft-close doors, and Cadillac’s semi-autonomous driving feature help to take this SUV to the next level.

Then there are the interior materials. While the base model gets faux leather, other trims take things to the next level. The Platinum trim comes outfitted with semi-aniline hides, a leather-covered dash, and adjustable interior ambient lighting to remind you that you are riding in a high-end SUV.

The powertrains are also notable on the Escalade. A standard V8 engine provides smooth power delivery. Or, buyers can opt for an available turbodiesel. Of course, this power is needed in order to move this massive vehicle to highway speeds. According to Car And Driver, this SUV weighs well over 6,000 pounds.

Then there is the size of this vehicle. It is absolutely massive with a length of 211.9 inches and a wheelbase of 120.9 inches. Of course, this size adds to passenger and cargo capacity, as well as makes the Escalade a comfortable place to be. Even for larger families.

What’s new for 2022?

Various safety features are now standard on the Cadillac Escalade. There is also a new Touring package which offers a number of luxury touches, including air suspension. Overall, this SUV looks similar to the outgoing model. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The Cadillac Escalade has serious road presence and looks as luxurious as it is.

If you are shopping for a luxury SUV, and want to buy American, the Cadillac Escalade is likely the right pick. Competitors include vehicles like the GMC Yukon, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and Lincoln Navigator. Of course, none of those boast the prestige of the Cadillac brand.

European competitors consist of the Mercedes GLS, Audi Q7, and BMW X7. But those vehicles do not offer the same driving experience as a domestic brand. The Cadillac Escalade is a serious investment. With a starting MSRP of $76,295, don’t expect this vehicle to be a bargain. Depending on trim and options, the Escalade can easily sell for over six figures. But in the world of luxury, you pay for what you get.
