Paint colors matter more than you know, even in the exotic world of supercars. That’s especially true if your chosen brand has a signature shade shaped by history and tradition. But there’s power in an untraditional color: they’re so rare that they always stand out from the crowd. And you can’t get much rarer or special than the white Ferrari Enzo that’s about to hit the auction block.

Ferrari made just 400 Enzo supercars and only one left the factory in this shade of white

You’d be mistaken for thinking all Ferraris, including the Enzo, only came in red. As Italy’s traditional racing color, it’s been the Prancing Horse’s go-to hue since its inception. And even today, red Ferraris tend to command the highest prices.

But while modifying your Ferrari with outlandish aftermarket color schemes might land you in hot water, the brand has never stuck purely to red. Blue, black, gray, and yellow are all part of Ferrari’s color wheel, as is white. Ferrari even offered the Enzo in two different shades of white. However, even by the Enzo’s limited-production-run standards, white paint was a rare option, offered only to Ferrari’s most esteemed clients.

Although a few high-profile accidents have sidelined a few, Ferrari originally made 400 Enzos from 2003-2005. It donated one to the Pope, while the other 399 ended up in private hands. Less than 20 of those 399 examples are painted in ‘Extracampionario’ colors (think Porsche’s Paint to Sample, but Ferrari). Of those 20, only one came in Bianco Avus white from the factory. And now, RM Sotheby’s is offering it up at no reserve.

Technically, the 2003 Ferrari Enzo going up for auction isn’t the only white example. There’s another one in Japan. However, that car is painted Bianco Fuji, rather than Bianco Avus, Autoblog explains. So, that still makes this Enzo a unique example of a special machine.

Even if it wasn’t painted a unique color, this is a special early-2000s supercar

Although its lineup is full of supercars, high-end sports cars, and now a V12-powered SUV, only five Ferrari models have been true ‘halo’ products. The first is the 288 GTO, followed by the F40 and the F50. And right before the LaFerrari, there was the Ferrari Enzo, named after the company’s founder. A lesser car might’ve crumbled under the weight of such a name—but the Enzo lives up to it.

In 2003, traction control, active aero, carbon-ceramic brakes, and paddle-shifted automated manuals were still F1-level technology. The Ferrari Enzo had them all, though, fitted inside an aluminum-and-carbon-fiber chassis with carbon-fiber body panels. And in the middle is a 651-hp 6.0-liter V12 that revs to 8200 rpm with a symphonic naturally-aspirated shriek. It’s enough to let the Enzo go 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and top out at 218 mph. And while it has active shocks, ABS, and stability control, the Enzo is also one of the last truly analog supercars.

Furthermore, this rare white Ferrari Enzo has a few desirable options. In addition to Nero black leather upholstery, it has Rosso Corsa instruments. Also, its carbon-fiber bucket seats have 3D black cloth inserts. Plus, it’s fully certified by the Ferrari Classiche program. And according to Autoblog, to qualify for an Extracampionario car, this Enzo’s original owner must have also bought an F40 and an F50.

How much will this white whale of a Ferrari Enzo cost?

A few years ago, RM Sotheby’s set an online car auction record by selling another Ferrari Enzo for $2.64 million. Since then, not only have other Enzos sold for more but Bring a Trailer just broke a record with a $5,365,000 LaFerrari Aptera. So, given that this white Ferrari Enzo is literally unique, will it beat not just past Enzo sales, but the LaFerrari one, too?

As of this writing, that’s still up in the air. However, we won’t need to wait long for the answer. RM Sotheby’s is auctioning this rare Enzo off from June 29-30, 2022. Are you ready to set sail and bag Moby Dick?
