You say you want a new EV pickup but don’t want to wait for the Rivian or Tesla pickups? You don’t have to. Go get yourself this Pickman pickup. You’ll love the price, too. Just $5,700 and it can be yours.

There are a few downsides to getting the true EV pickup experience you are expecting, however. Yeah, it’s going to be a little cramped, but for its size the bed is huge. And, the electric motor cranks out 5.5 hp, with a top speed of 28 mph. But, would you want to be going fast in something this small?

No range anxiety with the Pickman EV

And, with a top speed of 28 mph, your range anxiety is almost nil. Just so you know, the 100Ah battery located in the middle of the chassis has a range that is listed at 75 miles. We’ll do the math for you. Those 75 miles will take you roughly three hours to complete if you traveled them all at once.

Manufactured in China by Kaiyun Motors, founder Wang Chao told Bloomberg that it plans to sell 10,000 this year in the US. “2019 will be year one for Kaiyum as we take in overseas markets including the US,” he says. “We can make our Pickman as successful as the F-150.”

EV Pickup already approved for Europe and US

Wang also says that Kaiyun continues to tailor the Pickman to the US since sending a few over for evaluation and feedback. It has already gotten regulatory approvals both here and in Europe. Kaiyun has already started shipping Pickmans to Italy and Germany.

Obviously, the Pickman is not meant as a replacement for your F-150. It will be used on job sites and farms to haul small loads. As a neighborhood hauler, it would work well as long as your state allows them.

We’ve seen those gas-powered utility vehicles used at large facilities for groundskeepers and maintenance. But, unlike those we’ve seen the Pickman seems more like a real truck, just a lot smaller. The enclosed cab may be the reason. Whatever it is the Pickman has a fun look to it.

Could Pickman become as successful as F-150?

Though doubtful it will become as successful as the F-150, little trucks like these could become more mainstream. Larger cities around the world including the US are considering either commercial bans or complete bans on vehicles entering congested city centers. But, due to its size and electric propulsion little haulers like the Pickman could be a solution.

Getting food or materials into these areas could fall on little trucks. It could also haul people into and out of centers. We see this being done now in places like Disneyland and at sporting events.

For use as regular transportation is not what these are designed for. But, we’ll see if the Pickman can break into the US with a small and versatile utility truck like the Pickman.
