Whether you use your truck for commuting or for showing off how rich you are, there are many ways to own a truck. However, at its core, trucks are used for work. Here’s why the Chevy Colorado is one of the best work truck on the market today according to MotorTrend.

Powered for performance

MotorTrend picked the 3.6-liter V6 engine for its Colorado, and it’s the most powerful engine that’s available for it. This V6 pumps out about 308-hp and it’s one of the most powerful engine options for a mid-sized truck, according to MotorTrend. The 275 lb-ft of torque that the V6 gets is more than enough to tow a big load, too.

This trim of the Colorado can handle about 1,500 lb of payload on its truck bed as well as tow about 7,000 lb of cargo. Chevy also offers two other engine options, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine which is the Colorado’s standard engine and a 2.8-liter diesel engine. The 2.5-liter engine is the least powerful engine available for the Colorado, and the 2.8-liter diesel is the most powerful one, as it can tow over 7,700 lb of cargo.

The 3.6-liter V6 provides a great balance in terms of power, practicality, and performance. The V6, as well as the other engine options, allows the Colorado to perform well in many different work situations. MotorTrend’s test drivers were especially impressed by how the V6 performed while the Colorado was running errands.

Comfortable and practical

The Colorado that MotorTrend tested had a lot of practical features that made doing work easy. In particular, MotorTrend praised the backup camera and the tailgate steps of the Colorado. These features made loading and unloading the Colorado a breeze. MotorTrend was extremely impressed by how easy it was to load the truck bed of the Colorado compared to the other trucks that were tested.

But, on top of that ease of use, the Colorado was also a very comfortable truck too. The Colorado has plenty of headroom and legroom. Not only is it spacious despite being a mid-sized truck, but it also provides its occupants a very smooth and comfortable ride.

MotorTrend’s test drivers praised how the Colorado felt while they were driving the truck around. The Colorado felt like a truck, but it wasn’t an uncomfortable feeling either. MotorTrend said that it was a good balance in terms of ride comfort and truck-feel.

Furthermore, the Colorado is a relatively fuel efficient truck. Its fuel economy will vary based on the engine option and trim, but owners of the Colorado can expect about 20 MPG combined. The most fuel efficient option, the diesel one, can get up to 30 MPG on highways as well.

Solid all-around

MotorTrend didn’t just heap praise at the Colorado, though. MotorTrend said that although the infotainment system of the Colorado was good, the interior of the truck was otherwise sparse. However, for a work truck, you won’t need too many gadgets and gizmos, so that won’t be a problem for most drivers.

Another good perk about the Colorado is its price. The trim that MotorTrend tested cost about $38,000. A brand-new Colorado will start at almost half of that, at about $21,000. The Colorado was the most affordable work truck that MotorTrend tested, and MotorTrend’s test drivers all unanimously gave it the win.

That’s not the only time that the Colorado has won something, either. In 2015 and 2016, MotorTrend awarded the Colorado its Truck of the Year award. This award meant that MotorTrend thought that the Colorado was better than every other truck on the market. It’s not surprising then that MotorTrend also thinks that the Colorado is the best work truck of its size, too.
