The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a beloved midsize SUV. However, the 2023 Grand Cherokee is not overall the best vehicle. But the Ford Edge, one of its competitors in the midsize SUV section, is much better in many ways. Not only is it more safe and reliable, but it also delivers solid performance. Here’s what the 2023 Ford Edge has over the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 2023 Ford Edge offers solid performance

The 2023 Ford Edge is the best midsize SUV out of the two due to its performance. To be honest, the Grand Cherokee is more powerful on the base trim, but the Ford comes out on top due to the 2023 Ford Edge ST. According to Edmunds, the latest Edge has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with a maximum output of 250 hp.

However, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a standard 293 hp 3.6-liter V6 under its hood. The 2023 Ford Edge ST has a 2.7-liter V6 with a maximum output of 335 hp and a torque of 380 lb-ft. The Edge accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 to 7.4 seconds. Jeep’s Grand Cherokee isn’t far off at 7.4 seconds.

The Ford Edge is safe

The 2023 Ford Edge is one of the best midsize SUVs because it’s a safe option. In fact, the vehicle is a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS and has a five out of five-star safety rating. This means that the vehicle got high marks in all of the organization’s categories for safety.

However, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee fairs much worse in safety. Unfortunately, the midsize Jeep SUV has an overall poor rating from the IIHS. But it does have a good rating in the structure and safety cage category. This low level of overall safety is associated with a few Jeep SUVs.

Almost equal reliability

Unfortunately, neither the 2023 Ford Edge nor the Jeep Grand Cherokee are the most reliable midsize SUVs. The Ford Edge has a 76 out of 100 reliability rating from J.D Power. The Grand Cherokee has a 77. However, it should be noted that the ratings are partly based on previous models, and the latest Ford Edge seems to be an improvement over previous models.

Overall, the 2023 Edge has a bit more to offer than the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee is more popular but has its fair share of problems. However, the Ford Edge is a bit of a wild card that could be a pretty good choice for a daily commuter midsize SUV.
