The 2024 Ram TRX is an off-road monster. With beefed-up suspension, it can handle rolling whoops and off-camber trails with ease. And its supercharged V8 makes raucous sounds and enormous horsepower.

But for 2024, the Ram TRX costs $10,000 more than before. While that’s a substantial increase, there’s good reason for it. Let’s take a closer look.

The final Ram 1500 TRX will start at almost $100,000

Though the Ram TRX ($97,485 with destination) costs a pretty penny, as Car and Driver notes, you get what you pay for. And since 2024 marks its final year of production, buyers have to swoop one up while they can. Here’s what makes the off-road-focused TRX special.

Upgrades include a reinforced steel frame, remote reservoir Bilstein dampers, extensive underbody protection, and huge 15.0-inch front brakes. 35-inch all-terrain tires can handle anything, and look good doing it. And with over 13 inches of suspension travel, the TRX has motocrosser-like cushion off jumps.

Under the hood, things get interesting. A supercharged HEMI 6.2-liter V8 makes 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, for muscle car acceleration and hard-charging torque. An eight-speed auto sends power to all four wheels, and a rear electronic locking diff optimizes traction. Car and Driver recorded a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, showing the TRX can hang with anything on the street.

Outside, the TRX has muscular bodywork, looking part hot-rod, part off-road bruiser. Up front, a prominent hood scoop and gill-like vents hint at the power within. Flared fenders are reminiscent of a desert racing truck. A 4-door crew cab and short bed bring taut proportions. And an 8-inch wider stance gives the TRX an imposing presence.

Inside, the truck has the brand’s typical functional, luxurious design. High-quality materials and a logical layout mix comfort and function. A leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel looks ready for performance driving. A 12-inch digital gauge cluster is high-tech and cool, and a 12-inch touchscreen runs the Uconnect 5 Nav infotainment system.

Options like a Harman Kardon audio system and a head-up display bring top-end sound and technology. And Tyrannosaurus Rex logos throughout add a fun mood.

While the Ram TRX has few equals, the Ford F-150 Raptor R offers a similar ride. Starting at $111,150 (with destination), the Raptor R looks ready for the Baja 1000 with its comprehensive off-road equipment and racy looks.

Why forking over $10,000 more than the 2023 version could be worth it

The 2024 Ram TRX is expensive. But with its amusing attitude, strong build, and limited availability, it might be worth it.

With the EV age beginning, trucks like the TRX won’t be around much longer. While over 700 American ponies go fast and sound amazing, 14 mpg highway is substandard in today’s climate. So, for ICE aficionados, this special edition Ram offers gas-powered thrills soon to disappear.

2024 is the TRX’s final year, and it’s a limited edition model. Could Ram produce another pickup with such an aggressive look and burly build? Who knows. But with that up in the air, demand for the ‘24 TRX could skyrocket, and even lead to dealer markups. So it’s a good idea to pick one up at MSRP while you can.

Lastly, the Ram TRX has a fun, rugged personality unlike anything on the road. Molded-in Tyrannosaurus Rex logos in the cabin and engine bay add a lighthearted feel. And styling that’s part muscle car, part pickup gives it a classic, strong stance.

Is the 2024 version any different under the hood from the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX?

For 2024, the Ram TRX uses a powerplant identical to the 2023 model’s. With 702 horsepower of old-school iron, the motor is brash and powerful. The deep exhaust and supercharger whine form a vintage V8 symphony.

Considering that, if you aren’t interested in a special edition of the Ram TRX, you can save some serious cash by getting a model year that’s a year or two older. You get the same robust hardware and distinct curb appeal and can keep thousands in your bank account. Seems like a good idea.

The 2024 TRX costs more than last year, but it’s worth it in our book. Besides offering capability beyond almost anything, the off-road-focused pickup has throwback looks and an amusing personality. Whether cruising the streets or rolling over jumps, the Ram TRX does things with athletic aplomb.
