As everything goes hybrid, Jeep has jumped on this trend. Jeep promises that they will offer a hybrid version of each of their models by 2022, and the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the first option we’re getting a glimpse of.

A peek at the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Hybrid 

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe hybrid is a plug-in hybrid that will carry off-roaders through streams and to the tops of mountains very quietly. As the first plug-in Jeep Wrangler, the 4xe will be able to drive short distances without burning a single drop of fuel. 

Jeep released a video of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe silently going over obstacles. However, it was only a 15-second long clip. Jeep says that the 4xe is so quiet that it won’t disturb naptime, which felt like odd marketing. Who is off-roading with a baby that needs to stick to its schedule?

Also, this clip could be targeting the Ford Bronco, because it didn’t have a hybrid powertrain with its debut. Plus, the video shows horses at a longer duration than the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The video didn’t share much information, but we can provide what we know so far. 

What to expect with the Jeep Wrangler 4xe 

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe has been spotted on display already. It was seen at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It has light blue accents denoted electric power to set it apart for the gas-powered Rubicon. Even the tow hooks are blue instead of red. 

Jeep integrated the charging port at the base of the A-pillar on the driver’s side. The plug is noticeably above the blue trail-rated badge, meaning the Jeep Wrangler 4xe hasn’t lost its off-roading capabilities. 

Unfortunately, Jeep is keeping everything about the silent Jeep Wrangler 4xe under wraps, so we can only speculate about its power so far. The Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid may borrow technology from the Hybrid Chrysler Pacifica. 

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has a 3.6-liter V6 engine that’s paired with two electric motors and a small lithium-ion battery pack. It has an electric range of about 33 miles before gas kicks in thanks to its 33-kilowatt-hour pack. 

We can also expect that the Jeep Wrangler 4xe will be one of the most expensive variants, but buyers should receive a one-time tax credit for purchasing an electrified vehicle. Also, we may learn more soon. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is expected to debut soon and to be available in showrooms for the 2021 model year. 

More Jeep Wrangler updates 

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler could be getting a V8 HEMI engine option as well. It’s expected to debut with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. It should be similar to the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 concept with 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. 

The 6.8-liter V8 HEMI is also found in the Dodge Charger and challenger. The Jeep Wrangler HEMI is expected to have a more robust transmission than the current eight-speed build with a two-speed transfer case.
