Finally, as the 2021 Ford F-150 becomes closer to reaching showrooms for 2020, more information about trim level prices and packages is starting to surface. One rumor suggests that the F-150 FX4 package is gaining a new rocking crawling gear and will cost about $100 more.

This could be the rock crawling gear found on the 7-speed manual Ford Bronco, or it could be borrowed from the 2020 Ford Super Duty Tremor. With the Ford Tremor, rock-crawl mode operates in 4×4 low as it automatically modifies the traction control parameters, transmission, and other settings.

When the Tremor senses that one of the front wheels has lost traction, the brakes automatically send more power to the other wheel to avoid slipping. It’s safe to assume that the Ford F-150 FX4 will receive similar intelligent technology.

What comes with the 2021 Ford FX4 package?

If you opt for the 2021 Ford F-150 FX$ package, you’ll get skid plates to protect the undercarriage, including the differential, transfer case, and fuel tank. You’ll also get off-roading tuned shocks, hill descent control, and all-terrain tires.

Plus, you’ll get easy to clean floor liners that can be removed and hosed off. Other than that, and the new rock-crawl mode, the FX4 package will remain pretty similar to the package that’s available with the 2020 Ford F-150 model.

The FX4 package also comes with an electronically locking rear axle, but the ratio depends on which engine you choose. Of course, the FX4 package requires 4×4, it is for off-roading, and it’s available with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and 5.0-liter V8 engines. The 3.3-liter trucks are not FX4 eligible.

3.0 and 3.5-liter engines get 3.31.1 axles, and the 2.7-liter gets a 3.55.1 axle. The 5.0-liter, 3.0, and 3.5-liter engines can be upgraded to the 3.55.1 axle. Also, the 5.0-liter and 3.7-liter engines can be upgraded to the 3.73.1 axle.

How much does the Ford F-150 FX4 package cost?

The FX4 off-roading package is speculated to cost about $1,005. It is also only available with the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. While the Ford F-150 seems only to be gaining the rock crawl mode from the Tremor, the 2022 Ford Raptor may get more features.

With the 2022 Ford Ranger Tremor, expect it to be slightly more geared for off-roading than the Ford F-150 FX4. The Tremor package may include new tires, a Fox suspension, a 2” leveling kit, and the 7-speed manual transmission found in the Ford Bronco.

However, the Ford Ranger Raptor could be a possibility too. Ford has a lot in the works toward improving off-roading abilities for a variety of models. The Ford Bronco Raptor has even been confirmed for 2023.
