In the mid-size pickup truck category, the GMC Canyon has a lot to offer. While it is by no means the best truck in its category, it’s not a bad truck either. Here are some cool things that the Canyon offers, according to MotorTrend.

Great engines

GMC, because it’s owned by General Motors, has a lot of engines to offer consumers. These engines are also great in their own right, too. For instance, the Canyon can be equipped with a 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. This 2.8-liter diesel gets 189 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Like MotorTrend said, that is just 11 lb-ft of torque less than what the 5.3-liter V8 on the GMC Sierra gets.

The diesel isn’t very fast, as MotorTrend accelerated its diesel-powered Canyon from 0 to 60 MPH in 9.1 seconds. However, the diesel engine is very fuel-efficient, as MotorTrend got a fuel economy of 22 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on highways from it. Those are some of the best fuel economy figures for a pickup truck right now.

The other great engine option that GMC offers is a 3.6-liter V6. This V6 is powered by gas and it generates 306-hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. MotorTrend loved this V6 engine and claims that it’s the most powerful engine in its class. The Canyon’s V6 can accelerate it from 0 to 60 MPH in 6.8 seconds. Its fuel economy isn’t terrible either, as it gets 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on highways, according to MotorTrend. MotorTrend also liked the way that the V6 sounded.

Practical and comfortable

The diesel engine makes the Canyon a very capable and practical truck. MotorTrend says that the Canyon with its diesel engine can haul over 7,700 lb. It can also carry a payload of 1,600 lb. However, those impressive figures are not the only way that the Canyon is a practical pickup truck.

MotorTrend also complimented the new rear bumper of the Canyon. This feature makes it easier for drivers and others to climb onto the truck bed of the Canyon. This makes loading and offloading the Canyon a comfortable and easy thing to do. But that’s not the only way that the Canyon makes its occupants comfortable.

The Canyon with the Denali trim also comes with heated and ventilated front seats, according to MotorTrend. On top of that, the driver’s seat is powered and is also adjustable in six-ways. Furthermore, the infotainment system has also been upgraded, and that includes the infotainment systems on the standard Canyon trim.

40 ways to configure the GMC Canyon

There are also 40 different ways to configure the Canyon, and that’s not including other options and packages, according to MotorTrend. There are three cab and bed options, two drive options, and three different engine options. Picking and choosing between those options will allow owners to get the most out of their Canyon.

These options will change the price of the Canyon, but the base Canyon is very affordable at about $21,500, according to MotorTrend. The more expensive options can cost more than double that, however. But that said, GMC has upgraded many parts of the Canyon, so even the most basic and standard version is quite good.

Because of how many options and features that the Canyon has, as well as how capable its engines are, the Canyon strikes a great balance between luxury and practicality, especially when equipped with its diesel engine.
