The Ford F-150 Lightning already looks futuristic. So, why not make the regular one look like the futuristic one? In fact, there are now reports that Ford is testing design mules with a new front end that will be fitted to the F-150 for 2024 that looks like the all-electric Lightning. What can we expect from the 2024 Ford F-150?

What can we expect from a 2024 Ford F-150?

The Ford F-150 Lightning is, undoubtedly, one of the hottest trucks on the market right now. It’s so hot, the company is sold out. It makes a lot of sense that people would want their gas-powered truck to have some EV styling cues, too. MotorAuthority is reporting that the F-150 will get Lightning-inspired upgrades and updates for the 2024 model year, inside and out.

Test trucks have camouflage covering the front end of the truck, which is likely hiding new bumper covers, grille and headlight design. The site also reports that inside the truck there’s a different screen with a new bank of buttons on the top.

The 2024 facelift will come before a major refresh of the truck in 2025

It’s hard to believe that we’re already talking about 2026 model year trucks. However, Ford follows an update schedule which means that its next update should come in late 2024 for 2025 models. Not much is known about the new F-150 Lightning truck, yet. It will get divorced more from the current combustion engine version of the truck, with which is shares many parts.

Autoblog reports that the new F-150 Lighting will get the new TE1 platform, which could also underpin some full-sized electric SUVs. The TE1 platform should offer more range and battery options. Unfortunately, we don’t know much more about the redesign yet.By 2025, it will face competition from new EV trucks from Tesla (probably), Chevy, GMC, Rivian, and Ram, so it will need upgrades to compete. Toyota could also join the fray, and other startups like Canoo and Lordstown are expected to bring new EV trucks to market in the next couple of years, too.

How much is a 2024 F-150 Lightning going to cost?

Ford hasn’t released any details about the 2024 f-150 Lightning yet. However, the company did increase the price significantly for the 2023 version over the 2022. The first-year 2022 Ford F-150 Lightnings could, theoretically, be ordered as a $40,000 work truck. The base version for 2023, however, costs $56,000 now.

The 2024, with updates, will probably come with a slight price increase to match.

The Ford F-150 is scarce at the moment. Ford said it sold 15,000 F-150 Lightnings in 2022, which was all it could produce. Though Ford said it is ramping up production on the truck, they’re still hard to come by. Many were snapped up by fleet companies who put in orders early, and others went to early reservation holders.

Reservations are open now for Ford F-150 Lightnings, but there is no timeline on when a 2023 will be delivered. Ford, like others, is facing shortages of supplies. But, fear not, some dealers do have them in stock. They’re also starting to show up on vehicle auction sites, but at a major premium.
