Americans sure do love their full-size trucks. Oftentimes, full-size pickups are some of the most popular selling vehicles. Even if those that buy them do not actually do truck stuff. There is one model on the market that does seem to be struggling, and that is the Nissan Titan. The Titan has been a mainstay in Nissan’s lineup. But apparently, there are some plans to cancel it. So, is it worth buying a 2023 Nissan Titan, or should you look elsewhere?

Is there going to be a 2023 Nissan Titan?

Despite rumors that Nissan is planning to cancel the Titan, there is currently a 2023 model. This full-size truck still boasts a standard V8 engine, and it can come outfitted with four-wheel drive. Both things, on paper, at least, would lead you to believe that it’s a successful pickup. The new Nissan Titan also offers multiple cab and bed configurations. Lending itself to be fairly versatile.

Despite this, the Titan has never been a very successful full-size truck. So, it does make sense that Nissan is leading it to the chopping block. However, it’s hard not to look at the new Nissan Frontier and think that if the brand gave its big pickup some real attention, it could make it a solid truck.

How much can the 2023 Titan tow?

In terms of towing capacity, the 2023 Nissan Titan can handle up to 11,033 pounds when properly equipped. This is not as much as some of the other rivals out there. So that might explain why the Titan is falling behind. Trucks like the Ford F-150 can tow 14,000 lbs. Which is quite a bit more than the Titan.

When it comes to hauling, the maximum payload capacity is 2,408 lbs. That is a fairly respectable number, and it should be enough for most needs. Especially considering that most truck owners rarely haul things with their pickups.

Should you buy a new Nissan Titan?

If you want a new full-size truck, the Nissan Titan is not a bad candidate. Although, there is currently an open recall due to some transmission issues. But every Titan comes equipped with a 5.6-liter V8 engine, which has proven itself to be reliable. And it makes 400 HP plus 413 lb-ft of torque.

According to Car and Driver, the 2023 Titan fails to offer an answer to things like the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX. If you want an off-road truck, Nissan just offers the Titan PRO-4X. And that trim is not all that crazy, only coming with skid plates and upgraded shocks.

Is Nissan discontinuing the Titan?

Nissan does appear to have plans to kill off its full-size truck. It does not sell great, and Nissan is a brand that hopes to electrify its lineup. And maybe, the cost to do that to the Titan outweighs the benefits that Nissan would see from sales.

But, while the Titan is still available to buy new, maybe you shouldn’t ignore it. Especially if you want a V8 pickup truck.
