The 2024 Toyota Camry recently debuted. It’s mostly unchanged from the 2023 model but with a $100 price increase. This iconic car continues rolling off dealership lots in droves, thanks to its impressive fuel economy, plentiful advanced safety features, and fun-to-drive characteristics. But you’ll have several trim decisions to make.

LE: Toyota starts the LE base model at $26,420. It has a 203-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive. However, buyers can upgrade to all-wheel drive. It also has a 7.0-inch touchscreen and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5.

SE: The next trim level up is the SE. Starting at $27,960, it adds touches like SofTex-trimmed sport seats, a rear spoiler, and a chrome-tipped exhaust.

SE Nightshade: Then there’s the stealthy SE Nightshade edition. It starts at $28,960 and brings optional AWD, 19-inch bronze-painted wheels, black exterior touchpoints, and a trunk-mounted spoiler.

XLE: Next is the XLE ($31,170), bumping up the horsepower with an optional 3.5-liter V6. It also has a 9.0-inch touchscreen, leather seating, and an upgraded six-speaker audio system.

XSE: The sporty XSE ($31,720) offers the same engine options as the XLE but adds LED headlights and running lights, a dual exhaust, and a rear spoiler.

TRD: Last, the range-topping TRD ($33,485) is the most athletic. It touts a 301-hp V6, 19-inch wheels, a sport exhaust, and TRD-branded upholstery.

So, of all the 2024 Toyota Camry trims, which one do most consumers choose?

According to Edmunds data, the most popular Toyota Camry trim is the SE, one level up from the base model. That’s true for the 2022, 2023, and 2023 models.

The SE is an upgrade to the already well-equipped entry-level LE. The Camry SE boasts unique exterior trim accents, 18-inch wheels, simulated leather upholstery, and automatic climate control. In addition, it surprisingly provides a leather-wrapped steering wheel and paddle shifters for a sportier experience.

Of all the 2024 Toyota Camry trims, the SE is likely the most popular because of its value for the price. At a starting MSRP of only $27,860, this model brings sporty perks, along with the fuel-efficient four-cylinder and 32 mpg combined. And it’s chock full of safety features with the included Toyota Safety Sense 2.5.

The SE is also the trim that Edmunds experts recommend.

Which Camry powertrain is the best?

When choosing from the 2024 Toyota Camry trims, you’ll also need to consider the various powertrain configurations. They include the 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder, 3.5-liter V6, and next-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS II). Most experts recommend the 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine. It tends to be the best in reliability and performance. And its EPA-estimated 51/53 mpg city/highway makes it a fuel-saving pick.

Speaking of saving, if you want to avoid the $100 price hike, consider a new 2023 Toyota Camry instead of the latest 2024 model. The most recent version of America’s favorite midsize sedan is almost an exact replica of the 2023 Camry. And because dealers are likely offering discounts to move 2023 Camry models off their lots, you might score a significant deal.

Before you buy a new Toyota Camry, consider all your options. That includes trim levels, available equipment, and powertrain configurations. The SE trim remains consumers’ top pick in the 2024 model year.
