Kia is a company on the move. No longer a maker of plain economy cars, the South Korean manufacturer now competes with the best in the world. Need proof? Look no further than the EV6 GT.

Combining a futuristic exterior with a superlative electric powertrain, the EV6 GT has looks and performance for miles. Because of that, it just won a coveted award from TIME Magazine.

Let’s take a closer look at this impressive EV.

What award did the Kia EV6 GT just win?

TIME magazine recently included the Kia EV6 GT on its list of The 200 Best Inventions of 2023, in the Transportation category. That’s no small feat. So, how does the noted publication decide who makes the list?

Each year, TIME editors and correspondents make nominations via an online application process. Emerging fields—like sustainability, AI, and green energy—receive particular attention. After that, editors score nominees across several areas, like impact, efficacy, ambition, and originality.

According to TIME editors, “The result is a list of 200 groundbreaking inventions (and 50 special mention inventions)—including the world’s most powerful supercomputer, a game-changing entertainment venue, and a new shape—that are changing how we live, work, play, and think about what’s possible.”

Why is this award so impressive?

As the EV age begins, innovation is center stage. Cars like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Porsche Taycan offer groundbreaking tech and styling to match. In short, there are plenty of options. That’s why the EV6 GT’s award is all the more impressive.

Not only that but recipients of the TIME 200 Best Inventions of 2023 truly separate themselves from the pack. These are ideas that take a different approach or explore new territory—like Zellerfeld recyclable 3D-printed shoes— and being on the list denotes a design’s special qualities.

The Kia EV6 GT does have a lot to like

Looking at the EV6 GT’s design and specs, it makes sense that TIME gave it such a special award. From concept-car looks to supercar performance, this EV is like nothing else on the road.

Have you ever watched a movie set in the future? Typically, cars have a wholly different appearance, with aero-optimized shapes, bubble-like canopies, and subtle lighting. They’re a serious departure from today’s models. But the Kia EV6 GT brings the future to the present, with a high-tech yet sculptural appearance inside and out.

While the EV6’s round nose and wide fenders are reminiscent of a Porsche, its 4-door hatchback bodystyle gives it wagon-like utility. Neon green monobloc brake calipers peek from behind the front wheels, denoting this Kia’s real performance credibility. Segmented LED DRLs are futuristic and clean.

Inside, the modern, sporty theme continues, with bolstered sport seats and a fully digital gauge display. Flowing lines and metal accents create a sleek ambiance. And more neon green highlights—like the seat trim and “GT” button on the steering wheel—show this is no ordinary Kia.

Then there’s the powertrain. Dual electric motors provide 576 hp and all-wheel drive. According to Car and Driver, 0-60 mph takes 3.2 seconds. That’s supercar performance.

Though the EV6 GT has a somewhat limited range of 206 miles, its approximately 225 kWh DC fast charge capability lets it top off quickly. That’s a bonus on extended trips.

Lastly, with a price of $62,695, the Kia EV6 GT is an amazing value. Compare that to a dual-motor Porsche Taycan 4S for $113,350.

By earning a place on The 200 Best Inventions of 2023, the Kia EV6 GT takes its place among the world’s most innovative products. And for good reason. With superlative performance, futuristic looks, and all-electric architecture, this Kia sets an exciting course for zero-emissions transportation.
