Although some car enthusiasts are fully anti-EV SUVs, that is not stopping manufacturers from producing electric SUVs with serious performance. And for the 2023 model year, the Kia EV6 is getting a legitimate performance upgrade. Known as the Kia EV6 GT, this model will give you 576 horsepower and a near-instantaneous delivery of 545 pound-foot of torque.

How much will the Kia EV6 GT cost?

In terms of cost, the 2023 EV6 GT will have a starting MSRP of $61,400. In comparison, the base Kia EV6 Wind starts at $48,500. So, the GT model is undoubtedly more expensive. But for that price, you get serious power and speed. Plus, a number of other upgrades that make this performance EV worthy of consideration.

Every GT model will come with all-wheel drive. And this electric SUV boasts a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds. To think about where Kia was ten years ago to now is a real reflection of the effort that this brand has given to moving up-market. Kia is not shy to note that the 2023 EV6 GT has similar performance to some Porsche models.

Is the EV6 GT coming to the United States?

According to Car and Driver, you will be able to buy a 2023 Kia EV6 GT in the States. With 576 hp and AWD, it will be the most powerful Kia to enter production. And it is likely a precursor for what can be expected from the performance variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Perhaps one of the coolest parts of this performance SUV is its electronically controlled limited-slip differential. It will also get larger front and rear brakes to help handle the increase in power.

The 2023 EV6 GT will have an upgraded interior

Adding power isn’t enough to make the EV6 GT worth over $60k. Kia also made changes to the interior of this electric SUV. These changes include sport seats, green accents, and a plethora of GT logos. The seats have more aggressive bolstering to help keep you centered as you explore the power of your new Kia.

In addition to a revised interior, the exterior has been revisited. The front and back look more sporty. And you get painted brake calipers, which is something that every performance car seems to have.

Is the Kia EV6 a good car?

Kia’s EV SUV has certainly caught the attention of critics, and it does bring a lot to the table. As electric SUVs become more common, it is important that brands invest properly. And it seems like Kia is taking the EV6 seriously. Especially by offering a performance variant to this otherwise daily driver.

While the GT model is likely not for everyone, the Kia EV6 is available in a variety of trim levels. This should help more folks find an electric SUV that actually works for their lifestyle needs. From things like an available heat pump to help the EV6 function in winter to a solid electric range, this is a vehicle that deserves to be on your radar.
