Is the Honda CR-V Overrated?

The Honda CR-V is one of the most popular SUV models available. It’s an award winner, and you see them all of the neighborhood. But is the 2020 Honda CR-V one of the best options to buy, or is it overrated?

Is the Honda CR-V A Good Car?

The 2020 Honda CR-V has a starting price of around $25k, making it pretty expensive. This limits the market to older adults, who most likely need a family vehicle unless you go with a used Honda CR-V instead. The 2016 and 2017 Honda CR-V are currently the best-used model options.

One of the many praises the Honda CR-V gets is for its fuel economy, which is pretty good. The Honda CR-V gets up to 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. It’s hard to beat the Chevy Equinox that gets up to 39 mpg, though.

How Reliable is the Honda CR-V?

The Honda CR-V scored an 8.1/10 from Edmunds for having a peppy engine and a nice ride. Under the hood of the Honda CR-V, you’ll find a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that offers 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque.

However, it can only tow up to 1,500 lb while the Toyota RAV4 can tow up to 3,500 lb. This is a significant drawback if you need more towing capabilities. Also, the sporty ride is fair. The Honda CR-V can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds.

The active all-wheel-drive system automatically adjusts to changing road conditions. The Honda CR-V was also tested in the Mojave desert and performed well under extreme conditions, making it perfect for driving through snow and heading down trails to campsites.

Honda CR-V Standard Features

The Honda CR-V won Best Compact SUV Buy of 2020 and Best Compact SUV for the money 2020 award because it has a lot of standard features. The Honda CR-V base model is loaded with standard safety features, including automatic braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warnings, and much more.

In terms of cargo space, the Honda CR-V provides 37.6 cubic feet in the rear and up to 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space total. It also has storage containers for organization, and the seats fold down completely flat to offer more versatility.

The Honda CR-V infotainment center is a bright touch screen that can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As you rock around town, the automatic climate control will help you stay at the perfect temperature. The base model also includes remote start and keyless entry.

Other convenience features include wireless charging, power seats, a power liftgate, and more. While the Honda CR-V has a steep starting price, the base model has enough included to make it worth buying. Only pass on this compact SUV if you need to tow heavier items or if you need more space. Otherwise, no, the Honda CR-V is not overrated.
