The Ford Expedition Is More Reliable Than You Think

When it comes to reliability, you may think about Toyota vehicles. But don’t let the Ford Expedition slip by. Like the Sequioa and other beasts, the Ford Expedition is incredibly likely to surpass 200,000 miles.

The Ford Expedition is one of the most reliable SUVs you can buy. Based on the iSeeCars list of the top 15 vehicles most likely to surpass 200,000 miles, the Expedition ranks in sixth place. The Expedition is keeping up with big players such as the Toyota 4Runner and even ranks ahead of the Chevy Tahoe.

While the Tahoe has a 4.4% chance of lasting longer than 200,000 miles, the Expedition has a 4.5 percent chance. The 4Runner has a 4.6 percent chance of making it, and the Toyota Land Cruiser is in first place with a massive 18.2 percent chance.

This list is primarily dominated by Toyota models, but a few surprising models were ranked. The Toyota Sienna, GMC Yukon, and Honda Odyssey are unexpected options.

iSeeCars analyzed over 14.9 million vehicles sold in 2021 to discover the most dependable models based on their long-term reliability, with the highest percentage of vehicles reaching 200,000 miles.

How many miles will an Expedition last?

Ford Expedition models can make it to 300,000 miles with the proper care and maintenance. Without being taken care of regularly, some Expedition models may face significant issues around 150,000 miles.

An Expedition is considered to be a high-milage model around 200,000 miles. It’s a long-lasting, durable option for family road trips, towing, and outdoor adventuring.

The average person drives between 13,000 to 15,000 miles per year. Vehicles that are driven for work typically acquire about 20,000 miles per year. So, the Expedition could provide between 15 to 20 years of use.

However, the Expedition has an annual maintenance cost of about $861. This is a little up compared to the average cost of about $650 to maintain an SUV on a yearly basis. Repair and maintenance costs may vary based on age, condition, location, and shop.

Typical Expedition repairs include recharging the AC, replacing the air filter, replacing the radiator fan clutch, testing the emission system, replacing the window regulator, and replacing the turbocharger oil line.

According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Ford Expedition has a predicted reliability rating of three out of five. This is an average score, so it’s pretty good. The predicted reliability ranking is based on problems reported for earlier model years.

It looks like the most problems have been reported on the 2015, 2016, and 2018 models. The 2019 and 2020 Expedition models have fewer issues listed. A new generation of the Expedition was introduced in 2018, and it seems like the kinks were worked out by 2019.

We wouldn’t let that stop you from purchasing a used 2018 Ford Expedition. Just be sure to review the vehicle’s history before making your purchase. The Expedition is a durable option that should last for years.
