Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! It’s the 2020 Ford Expedition again. The Ford Expedition continues to beat the Chevy Tahoe on a variety of lists for the best SUV. This is pretty surprising since the Tahoe has been bragging about its fantastic redesign. So, why does the Expedition keep coming in first place?

The 2020 Ford Expedition won the best SUV again

According to MotorTrend, the Ford Expedition is the best full-size three-row SUV to buy in 2020. But this isn’t the only time it’s come in first place. It’s the KellyBlueBook best buy, it has multiple awards from J.D. Power, and much more.

It continues to dominate over the 2021 Chevy Tahoe. The new Chevy Tahoe just got tons of recent upgrades too, but they don’t seem to be enough. The Expedition continues to be the best family SUV, best multi-purpose vehicle, and more.

Why is the Ford Expedition the best?

MotorTrend rated the Ford Expedition highly for having a powerful twin-turbo EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6 engine with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. With the Platinum model, you get the same engine, but it has 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.

The MotorTrend team says the engine feels excellent on off-roading trails, on the highway, maneuvering around the city, and while towing tons of weight down country roads. Literally tons, the 2020 Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,300 lb when properly equipped. It can also carry a payload of up to 1,758 lb.

CarandDriver mentions that the Expedition can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, which is crazy fast for a massive behemoth. Also, the independent rear suspension delivers a smooth ride and excellent handling.

They also mentioned that the infotainment system is straightforward and easy to use. The 8.0-inch screen comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and you’ll find plenty of USB ports throughout the cabin.

The interior is comfortable and functional, but they could have used nicer materials for the starting price of around $52,810. The third-row seats are huge and spacious for adults. Plus, they are power-folding.

Is the 2021 Chevy Tahoe a good SUV?

Yes, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is an excellent option. It even starts a bit lower than the Expedition with an MSRP of around $49,000. It has three engine options.

The 5.3-liter V8 engine has 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2-liter V8 engine has 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, and the 3.0-liter diesel V6 pumps out 277 hp and 477 lb-ft of torque.

You can tow up to 8,300 lb with the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, which is less than the Expedition. You can also carry a payload of up to 1,827, which is more than the Expedition. Also, the Tahoe can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds

But the ride quality suffers a bit. MotorTend mentions that you can feel bumps in the road and said the steering feels shimmy. On a positive note, it has excellent handling.

The interior is comfortable and spacious too. Plus, modern tech allows it to connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. But overall, the engine is lacking compared to the Expedition’s.
