It had Jeep fans chomping at the eight-cylinder bit in 2021: the marque rolled out a Jeep Wrangler 392 with a 470-horsepower mill under the hood. However, there was a catch; the 392-cubic-inch engine is available exclusively in the Wrangler Rubicon 392 trim, a $90,000 off-roader. Fret not, you fanatics. Here are V8-powered alternatives to the mighty Wrangler model, like a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk and Dodge Durango SRT.

What are some V8-powered alternatives for the Jeep Wrangler 392?

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 starts at $89,390. However, if you want a V8-powered SUV with a smaller price tag or more poshness for the same ask, these brutes have you covered.

  • 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk
  • 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
  • 2018 Dodge Durango SRT
  • 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 50i
  • 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG

Does the Trackhawk use a Hellcat engine?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk packs a supercharged 6.2L Hellcat V8 engine, just like the SRT Challenger and Charger models. Better yet, the 2018, 2019, and 2020 models summoned 707 horsepower from the Hellcat mill, making them some of the most powerful SUVs ever produced.

Also, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has a Kelley Blue Book (KBB) average value of $63,679. As a result, the Trackhawk is much more affordable than a new Wrangler 392.

What is the SRT8 package on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The SRT8 package on the Jeep Grand Cherokee included a naturally aspirated 6.4L Apache V8, just like the mill in the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack. However, while the later model R/T Scat Pack produced 485 horsepower from the V8, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 topped out at 470 ponies.

Of course, the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 doesn’t have the suspension travel or off-roading acumen of the Wrangler 392. That said, it’s a much more affordable V8 alternative. Specifically, the SRT8 has a fair value of around $28,942.

Does the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT have the same engine as the Jeep Wrangler 392?

The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT packs the same 470-horsepower 392-cubic-inch V8 as the latest Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392. As a result, the used Durango SRT model is a viable V8 alternative to the unhinged Jeep. Better yet, at $42,442, the Durango is a three-row, money-saving alternative to the Wrangler model.

How much is a 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 50i?

A 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 50i doesn’t sound like a bargain, but its rate of depreciation has dropped to attainable levels. Specifically, the 456-horsepower turbocharged V8 SUV has a fair purchase price of around $40,813, less than half as much as a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 392.

How much horsepower is in the G 63 AMG?

A 2017 Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG produces a volcanic 563 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque from its turbocharged 5.5L V8 engine. Newer versions of the boxy V8 SUV drop displacement to 4.0L while upping the power to 577.

So, with the iconic G-Class badge and such a thunderous mill, you might expect it to be much pricier than a V8 Wrangler. Well, the 2017 G 63 AMG has a fair value of $90,749, within $1,500 of the juiced Wrangler model. Of course, if you want to perpetuate that mafia movie bad guy aesthetic, the G-Class is your only option.
