Buying a hybrid vehicle instead of a more conventional gas-powered option or dedicated electric vehicle (EV) is a tempting prospect, given unpredictable gas prices and the push for eco-friendly alternatives. Moreover, some hybrids are more popular than others. Check out five of the most popular used hybrid vehicle options in America heading into 2023, like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

What are the most common hybrid vehicles?

According to iSeeCars’ list, these options are some of the most common and popular used hybrid vehicles in America:

  • Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
  • Ford Fusion Hybrid
  • Toyota Prius
  • Toyota Camry Hybrid
  • Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Toyota dominates the list, with four of the five most popular options in America throughout 2022 and heading into 2023.

Is a RAV4 Hybrid worth the money?

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is the most popular used hybrid vehicle in the United States. It rose from the number two spot in 2021, suggesting that Americans consider the RAV4 to be worth the money.

While the RAV4 Hybrid only accounted for 0.3% of used car sales in 2022, it’s the top-performing hybrid model. That figure is up from 0.2% in 2021. Moreover, some of the recent RAV4 models promise fuel economy as high as 40 mpg or more. Not bad for an SUV.

Does Ford still make the Fusion Hybrid?

Unfortunately for fans of the Ford sedan, the Blue Oval discontinued the Fusion in 2020. That means there was no Fusion Hybrid in 2021 or 2022. Still, the Fusion model managed to be the second most popular used hybrid vehicle in America.

The Toyota Prius is one of the most popular used hybrid vehicles in America for 2022. While it accounted for just 0.1% of used car sales in 2022, it still snagged the number three spot on iSeeCars’ list of common and popular models.

Of course, if you don’t want a used Prius, Toyota is reviving the model with a more powerful and aggressively styled iteration for 2023.

Is Toyota Camry Hybrid worth buying?

The Camry Hybrid takes Toyota’s popular midsize sedan and adds substantial fuel economy. For instance, the 2021 Camry Hybrid gets as much as 52 mpg combined. As a result, the Toyota model is worth buying if you want a versatile sedan with fuel-sipping figures.

The Toyota Highlander might be substantial, but the hybrid version gets as much as 36 mpg combined. Moreover, with seating for up to eight people and 16 cubic feet of storage space, it makes sense that the Toyota SUV model is one of the most popular used hybrids in America.

Which used hybrid vehicle should you choose?

All of these hybrids promise excellent fuel efficiency and utility. For instance, the Toyota Camry and Prius models boast combined fuel economy figures of over 50 mpg combined and seating for five people. However, only the Highlander offers seating for up to eight. You might want a larger SUV over a more efficient sedan model, depending on your needs
