Full-size pickup trucks have come a long way in recent years. Large trucks were once gas guzzlin’ powerhouses with rough ride qualities. Today, some full-size pickup trucks have refined cabins and great handling. While trucks like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 are great buys, some full-size trucks still lack the value to top their vehicle segment. Here are the three worst new full-size pickup trucks for 2022.

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 still can’t break into the top three best new trucks

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 starts at $30,400. It uses a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine to make 277 horsepower. The full-size SUV model gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

The Silverado 1500 is a redesigned model despite just receiving a redesign for the 2019 model year. The latest model year benefits from a more refined cabin. The Silverado 1500’s ride quality still can’t compete with the ride quality of the best trucks in its segment. Chevy has made many improvements to the Silverado 1500. Unfortunately, the competition is too stiff for it to be a top-three full-size truck.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra still isn’t the best in its class despite a major redesign

The 2022 Toyota Tundra went through the most drastic change in its class. It took Toyota 13 long years, but the Japanese automaker finally refreshed the full-size truck. Toyota got rid of the iconic V8 engine and replaced it with an even more powerful V6 engine. The new Tundra even has a hybrid option that delivers more power thanks to electric motors.

The Toyota Tundra starts at $35,950. It uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine to produce a whopping 348 horsepower. The full-size SUV gets 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway.

The latest Tundra model is a huge win for Toyota, but ultimately, the full-size truck model still doesn’t provide as much value as class leaders like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 for its price. The Tundra is more expensive than many of its rivals, yet its many improvements still don’t justify its price.

The 2022 Nissan Titan lags behind competitors

The Nissan Titan ranks dead last on a list of best new trucks for 2022 compiled by Car and Driver. It isn’t necessarily a bad truck. It just gets easily eclipsed by rivals. The Nissan Titan has fewer engine options, towing capacity, and standard features than most of its major rivals in its segment.

The 2022 Nissan Titan has an estimated starting price of about $39,000. It will use a 5.6-liter V8 to make 400 horsepower. The full-size truck is expected to achieve just 16 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway.

The worst new full-size pickup trucks are a good sign for the truck vehicle class

The worst new full-size pickup trucks still offer value to some consumers. They may not be at the top of their class, but models like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Toyota Tundra have improved drastically. If you’re looking for the best full-size pickup truck on the market, the 2022 Ram 1500 is the best option available.

In such a competitive vehicle segment, the term “worst” doesn’t entail that these pickups are bad. They just aren’t at the top of their class. Being considered the “worst” in such a competitive vehicle segment speaks to how far each of these models has come over the years.
