The 2022 Dodge Durango is a good SUV that can tow a lot

The 2022 Dodge Durango is the best midsize SUV you can buy for towing. It has a towing capability of up to 8,700 pounds, which is very impressive for a midsize three-row SUV. You’ll have to opt for the V8 engine to get that towing capability, as the base model Dodge Durango’s powerful engine, a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque can tow up to 6,200 pounds.

The Dodge Durango has a powerful engine

The 2022 Dodge Durango has a powerful engine, though it doesn’t have an available Hellcat the way it once did. These include a 3.4-liter V6 that makes 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7-liter V8 makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. And the most powerful engine, the 6.4-liter V8, makes 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

It has a good amount of storage space

The 2022 Dodge Durango also has a respectable amount of cargo space. U.S. News says it can hold up to 17.2 cubic feet in the back. It also has room for 43.3 cubic feet of storage if you fold down the third row and 85.1 cubic feet with all back rows folded.

The Durango needs to be updated

If you’ve been loving the Dodge Durango for years, maybe you’ll be pleased that it isn’t undergoing any major changes for the 2022 model year. Dodge isn’t going to do a major rehaul of the Dodge Durango for another year or so. Instead, the 2022 Dodge Durango has gotten a good old-fashioned midcycle refresh, which will include minor changes that should make it more comfortable and appealing.

It doesn’t have good fuel economy

The 2022 Dodge Durango SRT 392 is a great SUV in many ways but it’s mpg leave something to be desired. The EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of the 2022 Dodge Durango SRT 392 is just 13 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

The Durango doesn’t have great safety ratings

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tested the 2022 Dodge Durango and found that it wasn’t safe enough to earn either of its safety awards, the Top Safety Pick or the Top Safety Pick+. While it has some good crash test results, others are less-than-stellar. For example, the small overlap front test on the driver side only gets a marginal rating. If you’re interested in the Dodge Durango, you’ll want to be familiar with the crash test results before buying.

Overall, the 2022 Dodge Durango is a pretty good SUV, but it does have some faults. Still, if you’re looking for a super powerful three-row SUV, you may want to consider the Durango. Just make sure you’re aware of its safety ratings and other negatives before you make your purchase.
