We have an answer to the question “will there be a 2023 Legacy?” That answer is an enthusiastic yes! While there were some questions and concerns over whether Subaru was discontinuing the Legacy, one of the most reliable midsize sedans, it’s been fully confirmed that there will be a new model for next year. The 2023 Subaru Legacy receives a refresh after its full redesign for 2020.

We do not currently have a set 2023 Subaru Legacy release date, though Subaru has confirmed that it will likely arrive in Subaru dealerships across the country come fall.

The new Legacy sedan will be available in five trim levels for the 2023 model year: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring XT. Subaru appears to have dropped the Limited XT trim for this year. However, new updates should more than make up for it.

How much does the 2023 Subaru Legacy cost?

Subaru has released pricing details for the 2023 Legacy. This Subaru has always been one of the cheapest all-wheel drive cars, and it appears the 2023 model stays true to that. In fact, depending on which Subaru Legacy trim level you choose, you could be spending just under $25,000, all the way up to just under $38,000.

As for exact pricing? Below are the various trim levels available, as well as how much each costs before destination and delivery:

  • Legacy CVT: $24,395
  • Legacy Premium CVT: $26,695
  • Legacy Sport CVT: $33,895
  • Legacy Limited CVT: $31,445
  • Legacy Touring XT CV: $37,695

The biggest changes to the 2023 Legacy come in exterior styling and safety features. This popular all-wheel drive sedan sees “a new front fascia incorporating a more prominent grille and redesigned LED headlights.”

Will the 2023 Legacy offer new colors? At this time, it doesn’t appear to. We can expect the new sedan to be available in the usual run of exterior and interior colors offered on the 2022 model.

As always, the Legacy comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a Subaru BOXER engine. Lower-trim models offer a 182-horsepower 2.5-liter engine, while select premium trims offer a 260-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine.

For safety, Subaru says that “the sedan comes standard with the latest generation of EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology and the enhanced system operates more smoothly and under a greater range of conditions.” Subaru expects that the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) will give the 2023 Legacy a Top Safety Pick+ rating when tested in the fall or winter.

These safety features and top ratings make the Subaru Legacy one of the best cars for new drivers.

One of the most exciting changes for the newest Subaru Legacy comes under the hood of the Sport trim level. This model used to offer the brand’s basic BOXER four-cylinder engine. New for this year, the 2023 Legacy Sport will come standard with Subaru’s 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This powertrain is good for 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.

The new Legacy Sport also offers flashy exterior and interior design accents, including two-tone interior cloth with contrast stitching. It also comes standard with a unique sport-tuned suspension.

2023 Subaru Legacy vs. competitors

When it goes on sale in the fall, the 2023 Legacy will compete with all of its classic rivals. The 2023 Honda Accord has been fully redesigned this year and will likely look sharp and impressive. However, the new Accord is slightly less powerful than the Legacy Sport or Touring XT.

The 2023 Toyota Camry received only a slight refresh for this year, which may make it hard to compete against the more heavily refreshed 2023 Legacy. Both of these midsize sedans have a lot to offer, but the Legacy looks like it’s ready to pull ahead.
