Trucks these days seem to only be climbing in price with no end in sight. But, there are still pickups out there that can be had for under $30,000, and the 2022 Nissan Frontier is one of them. The base Frontier has a starting cost of just $28,690, allowing buyers to get a mid-size truck without having to break the bank. Better yet, the Frontier is a vehicle that comes standard with a V6, meaning you do not have to pay extra to get the benefits of six cylinders.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier a good truck?

The new Frontier is a good truck that brings a lot to the table. In fact, Nissan has done such a good job with this truck that for Q1 of 2022 it sold second only to the Toyota Tacoma. In the past, the Frontier has not exactly been a top seller, likely in part due to its aging platform. So it appears that the changes Nissan has made have attracted the attention of prospective truck buyers.

Perhaps one of the biggest selling points of the new Frontier is its standard V6 engine. This 3.8-liter powerplant has the ability to generate 310 horsepower and 281 pound-foot of torque. Where other manufacturers may charge you extra to get the power and capability of a V6, Nissan has made it standard fare. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and unfortunately, a standard transmission is no longer available.

Which Frontier trim level is best?

If you want a truck that costs under $30,000, you will be stuck with the base model of the Frontier. But, the Nissan Frontier S is not all bad. It offers modern features like push-button start as well as Apple CarPlay. Plus, it can tow up to 6,720 lbs and haul up to 1,600 lbs.

According to Car and Driver, the best value offered by the 2022 Frontier may be the Frontier SV. This trim can come equipped with things like active safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and emergency braking. Those in northern climates are likely to appreciate the heated seats and heated steering wheel when the temperature drops outside.

Does the Nissan Frontier have a warranty?

Like other Nissan vehicles, the 2022 Frontier does offer a warranty. The powertrain is covered for up to five years or 60,000 miles and the limited warranty is active for three years or 36,000 miles. This is fairly comparable to other mid-size trucks, but the new Frontier does lack complimentary maintenance. Nearly every other competitor save for the Honda Ridgeline has some form of complimentary maintenance.

These warranties are a reflection of Nissan’s commitment to the Frontier. And with the new V6 engine, they could come in handy if any reliability issues were to come up. And they represent yet another benefit of opting for this mid-size truck if the price tag of under $30,000 was not enough.
