The Honda Accord is one of the most trustworthy cars on the market. However, Accord isn’t just reliable, it is fuel-efficient, too. The Honda sedan offers gas-powered options as well as a few economical hybrid variants. In fact, the Honda Accord is reportedly one of the best cars you can buy with over 40 mpg.

Key Points:

  • The 2022 Honda Accord is offered in 9 trim levels, including four ultra-efficient hybrid models.
  • The new Accord is available with a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine or a 252 horsepower turbo 2.0L four-cylinder engine. Additionally, the hybrid models pack a 2.0L four-cylinder hybrid system.
  • Top-performing hybrid trims like the Hybrid EX-L  boast fuel efficiency figures of up to 48 mpg city and 47 mpg at highway speeds.
  • Although the 2022 model year offers different powerplants and trims, there is no all-wheel drive (AWD) option.
  • The new Accord has a five-star crash test rating.

The new Honda Accord is a good midsized car with lots of variety for consumers. Opting for a new Accord gives shoppers a choice of three different powertrains, including a few fuel-sipping hybrid options. However, if fuel efficiency is not of concern, Honda offers the Accord with a 252 horsepower turbocharged 2.0L engine. However, Consumer Reports found the gear selector needlessly complicated with the 2.0L car.

Which trim is the most efficient?

TrueCar found the hybrid Accords to be much more efficient than the comparable gas-powered models. Specifically, the Hybrid and Hybrid EX-L top the range in fuel efficiency. Both cars will accomplish a reported 48 mpg in the city and 47 mpg at highway speeds. Conversely, the Sport and Sport SE with the 2.0L engine manage just 29 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.

In addition to efficiency, the Accord Hybrid models don’t compromise performance for range. Consumer Reports says that the Accord managed to retain its performance despite using an economical hybrid system. However, you won’t be winning any drag races, with a 1.5L Accord requiring just under eight seconds to hit 60 mph. While that isn’t bad, it isn’t going to suffice for those with the need for speed.

Is the 2022 Honda Accord a safe car?

Honda’s new midsized sedan performed admirably in all crash-protection testing. The Honda sedan received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) based on frontal, side, rear, and rollover criteria. Additionally, the Honda model received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). So, yep, it is a safe car.

The 2022 Honda Accord is an exceptional combination of fuel efficiency, practicality, and variety

The new Honda Accord upholds the expectations that the sedan arrives with every year. Honda’s new sedan is reliable, comfortable, and efficient. Consumer Reports not only recommends it but awarded it the number one spot on its midsized cars list.
