SUVs rule American roadways. But minivans, with their dual sliding doors and spacious cabins, are still in demand. The Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are among the most popular of the few remaining minivan models. Both bring big value in fuel efficiency, convenience, and pricing. But don’t take our word for it. Minivan sales numbers prove these superb family haulers are having an incredible year.

Automakers regularly report data based on monthly and quarterly earnings and vehicles sold. Now, halfway through the year, the latest figures show minivans are having a moment.

But beyond the data are victories for the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. So far this year, dealers have sold 34,098 Sienna models. That’s a massive improvement from year-to-date 2022 sales of only 6,840. And Honda has sold 44,706 Odyssey models — nearly double last year’s YTD sales of 23,887, GoodCarBadCar reports.

These sales figures point to two key facts. One, consumers still want minivans. And two, the 2023 Toyota Sienna and 2023 Honda Odyssey are top picks among minivan buyers.

The 2023 Toyota Sienna is a hybrid that boasts a roomy cabin, sweeping views through large windows, an available surround-view camera, and optional all-wheel drive. Its EPA-estimated combined 36 mpg and affordable $36,135–$52,355 price range make it an attractive minivan.

This year’s Sienna offers seven trims: LE, XLE, XSE, Woodland Edition, Limited, 25th Anniversary Edition, and Platinum. All pack a 245-hp four-cylinder engine and hybrid powertrain.

Toyota piles on the must-have driver-assistance systems, too. Every Sienna comes with automatic high beams, blind-spot warnings, and adaptive cruise control. They also have forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning with steering assistance.

The 2023 Honda Odyssey continues to be a top-selling minivan

The Odyssey excels in various areas. This Honda minivan has been a fan favorite for years, and 2023 is no exception. Car and Driver reviewers highlight its reconfigurable seating, numerous driver’s aids, and peppy acceleration. They call it a “well-rounded” and “compellingly competent” minivan.

Choose from EX, EX-L, Sport, Touring, and Elite trim levels. EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings are great at 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Enjoy the athletic 3.5-liter V6 engine making 280 hp. All trims also come equipped with a removable middle seat, accommodating seven or eight passengers. The $37,490–$49,620 price range sweetens the value proposition further.

Additionally, safety is a priority for the Odyssey. No matter how you spec this minivan, it includes blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure mitigation. It also has forward collision mitigation and rear cross-traffic alert systems.

Don’t discount the comfort, convenience, and value of a new minivan. And don’t overlook the 2023 Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna. 2023 is proving to be a rock-star year for these two models, signaling a renewed interest in minivans.
