The new Chevrolet Trax is a subcompact SUV with pizzazz. This once-dreary crossover now boasts sharp styling that looks part sports car, part sport utility vehicle. Abundant standard features give drivers more for their money. And five 2024 Chevy Trax trims give shoppers plenty to choose from. But at the top of the range, the two most expensive trim levels cost the same. Which is better? Let’s look at the Trax trims and how they differ.

Overview of the 2024 Chevy Trax trims

The 2024 Chevy Trax is a bargain. In the past, value-priced SUVs skimped on features and design, forcing buyers to compromise between cost and capability. But with striking styling and ample amenities, the Trax is a solid SUV at any price.

For 2024, Chevrolet offers the Trax in the following trims (MSRPs include destination):

  • LS — $21,495
  • 1RS — $23,195
  • LT — $23,395
  • 2RS — $24,995
  • Activ — $24,995

Every Trax packs a peppy, efficient powertrain. It comprises a 137-hp 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder, a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. Car and Driver testers drove it from 0 to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds. And fuel economy is a solid 28/32 mpg city/highway.

From there, the Trax trims diverge:

LS: The base model has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Standard features include an 8.0-inch HD color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Chevy Safety Assist, and deep-tinted cargo glass. Cruise control makes long trips a breeze, and Active Noise Cancellation keeps the cabin quiet.

1RS: One trim level up, the 1RS brings elevated style and more creature comforts. 18-inch black-painted aluminum wheels add sleek curb appeal. A wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel looks out of a sports car. And heated driver and front passenger seats bring warmth on cold mornings.

LT: Moving up to the LT trim brings useful tech and street presence. An 11-inch HD color touchscreen and 8.0-inch color driver information center provide high-tech functionality. Keyless start makes it easy to drive away in a jiff. And 17-inch gray-painted machined aluminum wheels have performance flair.

Finally, at the top of the range, the 2RS and Activ trims cost the same, starting at $24,995. Here’s what they offer:

2RS: The 2RS is reminiscent of a Camaro, with sleek 19-inch black-painted aluminum wheels. A heated steering wheel is nice to have when the temperature drops. And a keyless door unlock feature is quick and convenient.

Activ: Appealing to adventuresome drivers, the Activ trim has athletic looks and enhanced driver comfort. Exterior highlights include front and rear black Chevy Bow Tie emblems, a body-color grille insert, 18-inch black alloy wheels, and Activ badging. Plus, an eight-way power driver’s seat makes long trips comfortable.

2024 Chevy Trax 2RS vs. Activ trims: Similar yet different

Like every 2024 Trax trim, the 2RS and Activ are an excellent value. Though Chevrolet prices them the same, they offer slightly different features and contrasting personalities.

For instance, the 2RS is a sophisticated-looking ride at a bargain price. Its 19-inch alloy wheels are upscale yet sporty, and ample tech provides everyday convenience. RS badging harks back to classic Chevy sports cars, while Chevy Safety Assist adds peace of mind.

Meanwhile, the Activ emphasizes an adventure-ready appearance with exterior add-ons. Black detailing and an Activ-exclusive fascia create a capable attitude. And the eight-way power driver’s seat is a valuable addition.

Beyond those differences, the 2RS and Activ trims are mostly the same. They differ mainly in personality and feel, with the former more street-focused and the latter more adventurous-looking.

The 2RS and Activ appeal to different tastes

Choosing between the 2024 Chevy Trax 2RS and Activ trim depends on a driver’s personal style. That’s because the two trims are mechanically identical.

Drivers who want a sharp, sophisticated-looking SUV might find the 2RS more attractive. It has subtly sporty looks, enhanced by its 19-inch alloy wheels.

Consumers wanting an adventuresome vibe might prefer the Activ. The exterior gives it a ready-for-anything attitude, combining elements from Chevy’s pickups, sports cars, and SUVs. The Activ’s unique grille is especially cool with its large lower mesh.

For Trax buyers, it’s a close call between the two trims. If the Activ offered all-wheel drive — even at a higher cost — it’d be an easy pick over the 2RS. However, because the Activ package is mainly cosmetic, it might send shoppers wanting off-road capabilities elsewhere.

The 2024 Chevy Trax gives drivers a superb ride at a bargain price. Camaro-like styling gives this SUV curb appeal, and the spirited turbo engine is quick and efficient. A range of Trax trims suits varying needs and budgets. Though the 2RS and Activ carry the same MSRP, they offer different personalities. Choosing between them mainly depends on a driver’s tastes. Either way, the 2024 Trax is an excellent small SUV.
