It’s easy to understand why buyers go for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. It’s the most off-road capable option in the lineup. However, the Grand Cherokee just made it more difficult to buy. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is the only option available with the Trailhawk trim.

There are plenty of reasons to avoid the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. For example, it starts at $55,865, while the gas-powered model starts at $38,325. That’s a hefty price increase of $17,540 before upgrading to the Trailhawk trim. 

Upgrading to the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk increases the price to $62,485. So, prepare your wallet if this is the way you want to go. However, it is a luxury option with incredible power and capabilities. 

The Grand Cherokee 4xe comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine that’s paired with an electric motor to generate 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds. 

With the gas-powered Grand Cherokee, you can opt for the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine for 375 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. It reaches 60 mpg in about 6.5 seconds. 

What comes with the Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk? 

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk is loaded with off-roading upgrades. According to MotorTrend, it comes with the Quadra Trac II off-roading system with a 2.72:1 low range and a 47.4:1 crawl ratio. 

The rear eLSD will transfer 100 percent of power to the wheel with the most traction, and the front electronic disconnecting anti-roll bar improves articulation. The tow hooks are rated at 10,000 lbs. 

You can enjoy the ride on Trailhawk-specific 18-inch wheels that are wrapped in 30.5-inch 265/60R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires. The Quadra-Lift air suspension includes semi-active dampening and 4.7 inches of adjustment. 

The Grand Cherokee 4xe features up to 10.9-inches of ground clearance with a water fording depth of 24 inches. It features the best-in-class approach angle of 35.7 degrees with a 30.0-degree departure angle and a 22.3-degree break-over angle. 

How much range does the Grand Cherokee 4xe have?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe has an EPA-estimated range of 25 miles on a full charge. It should provide about 56 MPGe in hybrid mode, but when only using gasoline, it only gets 23 mpg. 

The Grand Cherokee 4xe should make it 440 miles between fill-ups. Most people drive less than 25 miles a day, making it easy to take advantage of the fully electric model. 

With a Level 1 charger or a regular 120-v outlet that’s found at home, you can recharge the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe in about 12 to 14 hours. You can recharge the battery pack in about three to four hours. 

The Grand Cherokee 4xe uses regenerative braking to charge the batteries. Plus, you can regain some power by driving in eSave mode. 

So, while it’s a little disappointing that the only way to get the Trailhawk model is more expensive, however, it’s worth it. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe isn’t short on power or capability and will help you save fuel.
