Early rumors suggested the Audi RS6 might have company in the performance wagon market if the smaller RS4 crossed the pond to be sold in the United States. Unfortunately, those early rumors were wrong, and the smaller, hot performance wagon won’t be sold here, leaving the RS6 to carry on as the only Audi performance wagon in America.

Why is the Audi RS6 the only Audi luxury wagon in the United States?

Although station wagons were all the rage in the ’50s and ’60s, these large family haulers fell out of favor when minivans replaced them. During the ’80s, minivans became popular as family vehicles for Americans while station wagons began to fall out of favor. Too bad we didn’t have the power, fun, and performance of the Audi wagons during this decade.

Today, only two brand names are stamped on wagons sold in America. The two brands are Audi and Volvo, with Audi selling the RS6 and Volvo offering wagon versions of the V60 and V90 sedans.

How did rumors of the Audi RS4 in America begin?

Somewhere along the way, MotorTrend received word from a “well-placed source” at Audi that the RS4 Competition model was coming to America. Audi has since corrected this mistake by telling MotorTrend they had no intention of offering the RS4 in the U.S. at this time. This leaves room for possibility, which was once again corrected.

As Motor1 tells us:

“MotorTrend received official word from the company that there were no plans at this time for the RS4 in the US, potentially leaving the door open to interpretation. However, Audi’s official comment was abundantly clear: “There are no plans to bring the RS4 Avant to the US market.”

Is there a wagon version of the A4 in the US?

Currently, Audi sells the A4 sedan and A4 Allroad wagon in the United States, but neither reaches the impressive 444-horsepower offered by the RS4 Avant. This means we’ll have to be satisfied with the Audi RS6 if we want to drive and enjoy a high-performance wagon from the four-ring brand.

What does the Audi RS6 offer?

The official name for the car is the Audi RS6 Avant, and it’s a high-performance luxury wagon worthy of our attention. This wagon does more than simply scratch the performance wagon itch; it satisfies your desires perfectly.

The RS6 Avant utilizes an incredible 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant uses a 48-volt mild hybrid system to aid in acceleration, making this one of the quickest cars of its kind.

Other drivers won’t expect you to challenge them to a race when you’re behind the wheel of this Audi wagon, but you’ll likely blow their doors off. This incredible wagon hits 60 mph in 3.1 seconds on the way to a 156 mph top speed, which is electronically limited.

Although the rumors of the Audi RS4 arriving in the United States turned out to be false, the Audi RS6 Avant provides the power, performance, and wagon build desired by families ready for some real driving excitement.
