If you’re looking for a bargain to save on a daily driver or a starter vehicle for your teen, then consider these used SUVs. They are reliable, affordable, and cover the basics for under $10,000.

  • Subcompact: 2013 – 2016 Kia Soul 
  • Compact: 2006 – 2011 Honda CR-V 
  • Mid-size: 2008 – 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee 

2013 – 2016 Kia Soul models 

Older Kia Soul models are efficient, have tons of interior space for the class, and provide an athletic performance. However, they don’t have AWD, which may cause them to instantly be removed from your shortlist. 

They have a solid range of available engine options, a durable transmission, and solid reliability scores. J.D.Power gave the 2016 Kia Soul a Reliability score of 87 out of 100, which is above average. 

2006 – 2011 Honda CR-V models 

If you want more passenger and cargo space then there are plenty of used Honda CR-V models to consider. They may cost a little more than expected because the CR-V has a solid resale value and a reputation for reliability.

But its reliability and value are also positives to consider. J.D.Power gave the 2011 CR-V a reliability rating of 90! 

Along with its solid value, the CR-V is comfortable, refined, and sporty with a high-quality interior. It outperforms older Toyota RAV4 models. 

2008 – 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee 

The third option on this list of the best used SUVs for under $10,000 is the midsized Jeep Grand Cherokee. These model years benefit from a mid-cycle refresh, so they provide more modern comfort and tech amenities. 

Plus, the Grand Cherokee has solid off-roading capabilities. It’s the most capable SUV in its class for the time. Also, because it’s Grand, it provides a smooth and refined ride to keep the driver and passengers happy. 

There are a range of powerful engine options to consider, including the 5.7-liter Hemi. J.D.Power gave the 2010 Grand Cherokee a reliability rating of 74, which is average.
