The luxury SUV segment isn’t easy to lead, but Mercedes-Benz isn’t worried. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is back and better than ever, thanks to some tweaks and upgrades. On top of that, the Mercedes‑AMG GLS 63 and Mercedes‑Maybach GLS 600 luxury sport utility vehicles receive thoughtful upgrades.

Is there a new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS coming out?

This week, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new 2024 Mercedes‑Benz GLS, Mercedes‑Maybach GLS 600, and Mercedes‑AMG GLS 63. Each gets some design, technology, and equipment improvements to make one of the best luxury SUVs even better. The GLS received a new front bumper, LED taillights, and a different radiator grille for next year. Drivers can customize this SUV with room for six or seven passengers. It also comes in two trim levels, the GLS 450 4MATIC and the GLS 580 4MATIC.

Inside, new leather upholstery options and interior trim finishes are available. An updated MBUX infotainment system has updated displays and three different styles: Classic, Sporty, and Discreet. There are also three modes, Navigation, Assistance, and Service. The 2024 GLS has a new Off-Road Mode with features like a 360‑degree camera and a “transparent hood” function. This allows the driver to “see” what is happening in front of the vehicle and avoid anything that might be in the way.

The GLS 580 4MATIC has an available Off-Road Engineering Package that adds AIRMATIC suspension and more ground clearance. All-wheel drive equips the GLS with 7,716 pounds of towing capacity.

For those who need a little more excitement, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLS is back and ready to keep driving fun. The GLS 63 version has an AMG 4.0L V8 Biturbo engine with hybrid assist that gets 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. It also gets the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ with all-wheel drive.

The new AMG emblem on the hood will be on all new AMG vehicles in the future, as well as red brake calipers. An AMG-specific light animation is projected on the ground when the doors open. Drivers can choose from 21-inch ten-spoke wheels or 22-23-inch wheels.

Exclusive Nappa leather seats are standard in the first and second rows, while a new Gloss Brown Linden Wood is an available interior option. The latest version of the MBUX is also in the GLS 63. This trim level also gets plenty of luxurious standard features like a panoramic sliding sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and Adaptive High Beam Assist. A 360-degree Surround View system and Blind Spot Assist also add to the AMG version.

The Mercedes-Maybach version is powerful and luxurious

In addition to the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS, the new 2024 Mercedes-Maybach GLS also received some changes. The Maybach GLS 600 gets 550 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, the Maybach features new grilles and available 23-inch forged wheels. New Twilight Blue Metallic and Alpine Grey paints, plus an updated steering wheel, are options this year.

All of these options are built in the Mercedes‑Benz Tuscaloosa factory in Alabama. Built in 1995, this factory produces the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS and more. About two-thirds of the plant’s production run is exported to other countries. In 2021 alone, the Tuscaloosa factory built more than 260,000 SUVs. It is one of the few luxury SUVs made in America these days. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS and the rest of the lineup should be hitting dealerships later this year.
