It’s time for the next dinosaur on Toyota’s block to get a makeover. Soon we will get to see the 2023 Toyota Sequoia in all of its updated glory. Until then, we can look at the new Toyota Tundra to figure out what to expect.

Forget the old, lumbering Toyota Sequioa that you know and love. Next week we get to see the completely redesigned 2023 Toyota Sequioa debut. This will be the first significant upgrade for the Sequioa since 2008.

Holy moly, that was a long time ago. Finally, Toyota is starting to refresh its lineup. The new updates started with the 2022 Toyota Tundra, and we like what we’ve seen so far. It may provide clues about the new Sequoia as both vehicles are expected to have a lot in common.

What do the Sequoia and Tundra share?

While the current Sequipa offers a smooth ride, the 2023 Toyota Sequioa may be improved. It’s built on the new Toyota TNGA-F body-on-frame platform that underpins the 2022 Toyota Tundra and Land Cruiser.

The Land Cruiser and Tundra both use a solid rear axle, and the Tundra has rear coil springs, But the Sequioa will continue to have an independent rear suspension. The Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition have independent rear suspensions too.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the Tundra gains the two new engine options from the Tundra as well. With the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine, you get 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V6 engine pumps out 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque.

The Toyota Sequoia currently uses a 5.7-liter V8 engine with 381 and 401 lb-ft of torque. So, expect increased power. Also, the Sequoia gets an EPA-estimated 13 mpg in the city and up to 17 mpg on the highway.

That’s not great! But perhaps the hybrid engine will help the Sequoia get better numbers. The Toyota Tundra Hybrid is expected to get about 30 mpg.

The Sequioa can tow up to 7,400 lbs. The older Tundra tows up to 10,200 lbs, and the new model can tow up to 12,000s. Perhaps the Sequoia will be able to tow up to 10,000 lbs to rival the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

How much does the 2023 Sequoia cost?

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia starts at $50,000. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia could cost a bit more due to the external and internal upgrades. It could start at about $55,000. For some context, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe begins at about $52,000.

We’ve only seen official teaser images so far, but the Sequoia is gaining an attractive new look. Curvey lines will give it more shape for a modern look compared to the massive blob aesthetic that it currently has.

It’s pretty exciting for the Sequoia to finally gain an updated interior. It should include more high-quality materials like leather-wrapped surfaces and wood or metal appliques. Also, it’s probably getting the same 14-inch touchscreen from the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Other updates to expect may include a massive moon roof, wireless phone charging, a new digital gauge cluster, and possibly a head-up display. Updated trim levels like the Sequoia TRD Pro could arrive too. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more!
