Supply issues, skyrocketing car prices, empty dealer lots, and insane gas prices—there are a lot of problems plaguing the new-car market right now. Even popular, best-selling cars are taking the hit. Across the board, new cars are seeing lower sales numbers compared to last year. This is due in part to just not having enough cars to sell.

But, even these annoyances aren’t stopping Americans from buying new sedans, SUVs, and trucks. See the six best-selling cars for 2022’s first quarter.

6. 2022 Nissan Altima: 38,295 sold

This mid-size sedan is having a banner quarter. The 2022 Altima’s sales are up 20% for Q1, but that may be due in part to Altima sales that suffered in 2021. Its high sales may be spurred by an attractive starting price—around $25,000—available all-wheel drive, and up to 39 mpg on the highway. The 2022 Altima is beating its sibling, the compact Sentra, in sales.

5. 2022 Honda Civic: 38,515 sold

The ever-popular 2022 Civic compact sedan is struggling with a major sales decline. The Civic is showing 31% lower numbers from last year. This is due to a combination of supply issues leading to fewer cars available to sell. But, even with these low sales, the 2022 Civic is still in the top. This sedan sees up to 42 mpg on the highway and starts around $22,500. If Honda brings back the Civic Hybrid, that might help to sweeten sales.

4. 2022 Tesla Model 3: 40,200 sold

It might be surprising to see a Tesla on this list, only because they can be so hard to find. Tesla’s compact luxury EV has still managed to move over 40,000 cars for the first quarter of 2022. Note that these are estimated numbers because we don’t have clear sales figures for the U.S. market. In a tough market, even the cheapest Model 3 EV is a best-seller.

3. 2022 Honda Accord: 42,039 sold

Sales of Honda’s midsize sedan have dropped 10% compared to numbers from last year. The 2022 Accord is struggling to keep up with its top competitor, the Camry, even though it remains a favorite of critics. The Accord starts around $26,000, offers a variety of well-stocked trim levels, and is available in a hybrid.

2. 2022 Toyota Corolla: 47,501 sold

The 2022 Corolla is the best-selling compact sedan for 2022’s first quarter, even with a 35% drop in sales. This drop may indicate that the popularity of the Corolla is fading. Why are people shying away from small sedans? The 2022 Corolla is a Top Safety Pick+, it starts just over $20,000, and Toyota is releasing an all-new GR Corolla hatchback soon.

1. 2022 Toyota Camry: 61,505 sold

The 2022 Camry is the only sedan to break into Car and Driver’s list of Top 10 best-selling vehicles, among popular SUVs and trucks. That makes the Camry the best-selling non-SUV/non-truck and the #1 best-selling midsize sedan. It also makes for one of the most reliable used cars.

It’ll be interesting to see if these top best-selling cars stay on top for the rest of 2022. Big names from Toyota, Honda, and Tesla will likely stay as the most popular—but maybe the Nissan Sentra can claw its way farther up the list.
