The Mazda CX-5 is an award-winning SUV, but how capable is it? Can it handle the snow or make it down a trail to campsites, or is it an over-glorified pavement princess? Let’s dive into the Mazda CX-5 specs to check it out.

How Capable Is The Mazda CX-5?

To get started in the 2020 Mazda CX-5, you will need to spend about $25k. This price is pretty fair and allows this Mazda to compete against the RAV4, which starts around $25k as well.

The Mazda CX-5 also has a competitive fuel economy. It gets up to 25 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

Mazda CX-5 Performance

The Mazda CX-5 is available with two engine options. The base model comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

If you upgrade to the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, you’ll get 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The Mazda CX-5 can tow up to 2,000 lb, which isn’t terrible. The RAV4 can tow up to 3,500 lb, though.

Also, the Mazda CX-5 has a fun acceleration. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in only 6.4 seconds. By having a low center of gravity, the Mazda is fun and sporty to zoom around town with.

Plus, the Mazda CX-5 sits on 19” wheels, making it better for cornering and conquering challenging road conditions.

We’re happy to say that the Mazda CX-5 is available in all-wheel-drive, giving drivers the power to traverse through snow and other slippery conditions.

The Mazda CX-5 has an independent four-wheel suspension with a MacPherson strut and stabilizer bar in the front and a multi-link suspension in the rear with a stabilizer bar.

Meaning the Mazda CX-5 is well equipped to absorb impacts and provides a smooth ride while going over bumps and rough terrain.

The antilock brake system has electronic brake force distribution, and brake assist to help send power to the wheels that need it.

Plus, the Mazda CX-5 is equipped with dynamic stability control and hill start assist, allowing drivers to crawl over more obstacles.

Mazda CX-5 Features

The Mazda CX-5 is full of comfort and tech with a leather-trimmed cabin and infotainment center that can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The active driving display places essential information such as navigation, AWD status, your current speed, and safety warning right on the windshield, so your eyes can stay on the road.

Enjoy peace of mind with a quiet cabin, because the Mazda CX-5 is packed with nosing cancellation materials to keep the big city on the outside.

Plus, the Mazda CX-5 is incredibly safe. The i-Active safety sense suite includes blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and more to help you avoid collisions.

The Mazda CX-5 may not be designed for off-roading use like the Jeep Renegade, but it’s not an urban city dweller either.

The Mazda CX-5 is equipped to tackle a few challenges off the beaten path and has a luxurious and sporty feel while doing so.
