The 2022 Nissan Frontier has a new look and attitude, but does that mean it’s a good truck? There are a few things to consider before buying the new Nissan Frontier before going all in. For example, can it hang with the competition?

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 Nissan Frontier serves as a great, reliable option. It finally got a new look, bringing it back from the past to stack up against competitors like the Honda Ridgeline and Jeep Gladiator.

According to Car Buzz, the new Nissan Frontier could have an MSRP of between $27,670 to $37,490. This would make it a little more expensive compare to options like the Ford Ranger that begins at around $24,830. But the Frontier may have enough upgrades to be worth paying a little extra for.

How does the Nissan Frontier perform?

According to Car and Driver, the 2022 Nissan Frontier has the same 3.8-liter V6 engine that made its debut in 2020. It has 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

For comparison’s sake, the Chevy Colorado’s most potent engine option is a 3.6-liter V6 option with 308 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. So, the Frontier has best-in-class horsepower, and it has a standard V6. With the Colorado, you have to pay to upgrade to the V6.

But having this much HP doesn’t make it better at truck stuff. The Frontier can tow up to 6,720 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,610 lbs. Meanwhile, the Chevy Colorado, Jeep Gladiator, and other rivals can pull at least 7,650 lbs.

The towing package includes trailer sway control, but it doesn’t come with an integrated trailer brake, according to Edmunds. Also, the dampened tailgate makes it pretty quiet and easy to lift. It’s very smooth.

For 2022, the Nissan Frontier PRO-4X model has gained a few extra goodies, including red tow hooks and a nice-looking skidplate. It gained Bilstein shocked and new all-terrain tires too. Best of all, the front bumper has cutouts to improve its clearance for rock crawling.

New Nissan Frontier features

The 2022 Nissan Frontier rides on its same old platform, but that’s fine. The suspension has been upgraded and revised to provide a better ride. It’s expected to be smoother over bumps with less noise in the cabin.

Critics are thrilled with the updated interior. It went from old, plastic, and drab to fab. The trim pieces are made with higher quality materials, and the layout is practical and straightforward with updated tech.

An 8-inch touchscreen comes standard, but you can upgrade to the 9-inch option. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Plus, there are plenty of USB and USB-C ports in the front and back.

There is a huge amount of storage space thanks to the large center console. There is a bin in the dashboard and storage under the backseat. However, taller adults may feel cramped back there.

But the Frontier doesn’t include many standard safety features. Forward collision warning is standard, but blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and more are optional.
