The Rivan R1T is coming out, we can’t wait to see the electric Ford F-150, and of course, there is the Tesla Cybertruck. Will the GMC Hummer EV be able to compete against the Tesla Cybertruck?

2022 GMC Hummer EV vs. the Tesla Cybertruck

The most significant difference between the Tesla Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV is the way they look. The Cybertruck has one heck of a unique, futuristic look that is either loved or hated. The Hummer EV has a more traditional truck look with a few modern attributes, but we wouldn’t exactly call it attractive.

GM is pricing the 2022 Hummer EV around $80,000, making it pretty darn expensive, but it’s a super truck. The Tesla Cybertruck will start around $40,000, but its main rival is the Ford F-150, not super luxurious models.

Tesla Cybertruck and Hummer EV power

GMC says that the 2022 Hummer EV will be pretty darn powerful with 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. But that torque figure is more than likely axle torque. According to CNET, the axle torque is significantly higher than the SAE-certified spec that the auto industry commonly uses.

So, this number could be inflated for now, but the actual SAE number should be available closer to when the Hummer EV launches. Motor1 suggests that it probably provides close to 800 lb-ft of torque. Also, it will have enough power for the EV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds.

The Tesla Cybertruck will have an estimated 800 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. So, the Hummer EV could have less torque. Also, the Telesa Cybertruck can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, which is .1 second faster than the Hummer EV.

The Tesla Cybertruck should be able to tow up to 14,000 lb and carry a payload of up to 3,500 lb. GMC hasn’t released the towing specs for the Hummer EV yet. However, it will need to tow at least 11,000 lb to remain competitive.

Also, the Hummer EV has a limited range compared to rivals. It has a 350-mile range. Meanwhile, the Tesla Cybertruck should have an estimated 500-mile range. But the Cybertruck may have a heavier battery pack weighing it down.

2022 Hummer EV and Tesla Cybertruck features

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV launch edition includes the Extreme Off-Road Package with underbody armor, rock sliders, and 35-inch tires. The CrabWalk also allows it to move from side to side, like a crab. It also has an adaptive air suspension that lifts the truck by 6-inches.

In the Tesla Cybertruck, you’ll find an adaptive air suspension that can be raised or lowered on the fly to provide up to 16″ of ground clearance. The slide-out tailgate doubles as a ramp to load four-wheelers and motorcycles too.

Also, the Tesla Cybertruck will be able to float for a while, meaning it can go swimming for a little bit. The driver can wade or float across streams as needed, but it’s unclear how. Plus, it can be charged via solar panels in the wild.
