The 2021 Chevy Suburban Sacrifices Comfort for Style

The 2021 Chevy Suburban has been trying to catch up with its rival, the Ford Expedition Max, but it still has a few obstacles to tackle. While the Chevy Suburban increased legroom and received a makeover, it still could use some improvements in terms of comfort.

Is the 2021 Chevy Suburban worth buying?

Yes, the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is a great option, especially if you need a massive family hauler. However, according to Cars.com, it might not be a comfortable option. After reviewing this SUV beast, they found that style comes at the cost of comfort.

They had the optional 22-inch wheels fitted on the High Country model. Sure, it looks great, but the ride was very firm. They could feel the bumps in the road as they made harsh impacts.

But an SUV with a luxury price should have a smooth ride. The Suburban experienced bumps and rattles, but the adaptive air suspension helped smooth things out a little.

But this was only one take on the ride quality. According to Motor Trend, the 2021 Suburban is lumbering. When they parked it, they had to reverse and try again. Getting between the lines in such a large SUV was difficult, and going through drive-throughs wasn’t exactly easy either.

Plus, they mentioned that the mid-level trim options for the Chevy Suburban don’t include the best interior materials. It feels a little cheap and uncomfortable. The front seat could use some more padding.

However, Edmunds mentioned that the new independent rear suspension and available air-sprung suspension with adaptive dampeners improve its ride quality. So, the Suburban is more comfortable than it used to be, at least if you spring for the extras.

Is the Chevy Suburban a good SUV?

Yes, despite having not exactly the best ride quality, the Chevy Suburban is a great SUV option to consider. Its new chassis and 4.1-inch longer wheelbase give it more space and muscle. There are 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-row seats and 144.7 cubic feet total.

Other improvements with space include passenger and driver room. The first, second, and third rows all have more room, making it easier to stretch out during long drives. But at 5’1”, most vehicles are already large enough for me!

There are three 2021 Suburban engines:

  • The 5.3-liter V8 base engine provides 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six engine pumps out 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 6.2-liter V8 engine provides 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but you can upgrade to four-wheel drive. When properly equipped, the 2021 Chevy Suburban can tow up to 8,300 lb. Its payload capacity is 1,750 lb too, so it’s great for work and play.

How is the Chevy Suburban tech?

The 2021 Chevy Suburban is loaded with tech, but the MagneRide dampening technology could be improved. It still seems to wallow and feel lumpy. Also, driving modes include Normal, Sport, Off-Road, and towing.

There is a new 10-inch touchscreen, and you can add an optional head-up display. Passengers in the second-row can be entertained by optional 12.6-inch touchscreens with their own HDMI inputs. Plus, there are USB-C ports included too!
