Resale value can make a difference when you’re ready to trade your vehicle in. Toyota is known for having long-lasting durable vehicles. But being popular doesn’t exactly lead to higher rates of success. The Toyota RAV4 is the most popular SUV from the brand, but another option has a higher resale value.

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner has the best SUV resale value

Not only does the 2023 Toyota 4Runner have a better resale value than the Toyota RAV4, but it has the best resale value out of every single SUV available.

It has a higher resale value than the Toyota Sequoia, Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, Jeep Wrangler, Mazda CX-50, and other popular options.

Yahoo Finance made a list of the top SUVs with the best resale value aggregating lists based on multiple sources. The resale value scores are provided by J.D.power and combined with depreciation rates over the next three years.

The only other Toyota vehicle on this list is the Toyota bZ4X, which landed in ninth place. It has a resale score of 83 out of 100. The Jeep Wrangler came in sixth place with an 86. But nothing could beat the 4Runner with its score of 90.

You can expect an average 4Runner model to depreciate by about 19% after five years of ownership to maintain a resale value of roughly $36,437.

This is related to a purchase price of about $45,185 when new and assumes that the model is kept in good condition while only acquiring about 12,000 miles per year.

The average Toyota RAV4 model has a depreciation rate of about 21% after five years for a resale value of $27,757 if the vehicle was purchased for about $35,135 when new.

Also, the 4Runner managed to sell 109,951 models in 2023 and the RAV4 moved 434,943 models. The Wrangler moved 155,491 SUVs. The resale value of the RAV4 could be lower because more used options are available.

The 4runner could beat the Jeep Wrangler because it has a higher reliability score and quality rating. It also has a reputation for lasting longer. But things may change as the 2025 4Runner launches the new generation.
