We’re getting to the bottom of a mystery today. The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is almost here, but the new Land Cruiser is already making the rounds. The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is now a more affordable rugged option, so where will the 4Runner fit?

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser vs. 2025 Toyota 4Runner

We don’t have a lot of information about the 2025 Toyota 4Runner yet. However, it’s recently been spotted while being tested while wearing tons of camouflage.

However, at the Chicago Auto Show, we took a side-by-side look at the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser and 2024 4Runner and noticed some similarities.

They both offer that rugged boxy shape Americans are addicted to. The Land Cruiser looks like a modern 4Runner inside and out.

The Land Cruiser used to be a luxury option, but this isn’t the case for the new model. Instead of starting around $80,000, it’s expected to start at about $55,000. If you want more luxury then check out the incredibly similar Lexus GX.

The 2024 4Runner starts at $40,705, but you have to imagine that the price will increase when the new generation finally arrives.

We know that the Land Cruiser only has space for up to five passengers and the 4Runner offers three rows. But the Toyota Grand Highlander is a hot new family option that slots under the Toyota Sequoia.

Also, the new 4Runner and Land Cruiser are built on the same TNGA-F platform and may share engine options.

The Land Cruiser has a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with two electric motors to crank out 326 hp. It’s similar to the same hybrid setup in the new Toyota Tacoma. Rumors suggest that the 4Runner will have the same engine.

Plus, the Land Cruiser and 4Runner both have similar reputations for having true off-roading chops and long-lasting durability.

Deciding between these two SUVs might come down to looks. The 4Runner is expected to have a similar grille design, front bumper, and headlights to the new Tacoma.

Also, the Land Cruiser is expected to have more standard features such as heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a six-speaker audio system.

The Land Cruiser will arrive at dealerships by the spring and we’re so close to finally seeing the new 4Runner. But will these SUVs be too similar to compete?
