It feels like the new Nissan Frontier got left on the back burner, and it doesn’t belong there. It has excellent qualities to consider against other midsize trucks and should be one of the main attractions. Seriously, don’t be so quick to pass on the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Yes, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is an excellent midsize truck to consider. It has a powerful engine, a comfortable ride, and it’s pretty rugged. You can get started with a new Frontier for about $28,690.

It’s a little more expensive than its rivals but may include more value. For 2022, it was redesigned with a new exterior look and updated interior. It has modern tech, a smooth ride, and extra off-roading capabilities.

The Frontier feels like an underdog, as other options like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger are in the spotlight more often. But the Frontier is the second best-selling truck in America. It trails the Tacoma but beats the Canyon, Ranger, and Colorado.

How capable is the Frontier?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier is equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It has the best-in-class power, and the engine pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

According to Edmunds, the Frontier can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.8 seconds, which is average. But it has smooth transmission shifts, responsive handling, and confident brakes. It serves as an engaging daily driver.

When properly equipped, the Frontier can tow up to 6,720 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,708 lbs. It falls short compared to the Chevy Colorado, which can tow up 7,700 lbs, but if you need more muscle than 6,720 lbs, you may want to consider a full-size option.

You can upgrade to the Frontier PRO-4X to tackle off-roading challenges. It rides on 17-inch dark-finished aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Bilstein dampers and monotube shock absorbers help smooth over impacts.

Plus, you get an electronically locking rear differential for extra traction. Skid plates protect the undercarriage, and red tow hooks make the truck pop. It also has aggressively styled fender flares.

Off-road gauges display your pitch and roll. Also, the surround-view 360-degree camera helps you avoid obstacles on narrow trails.

Does the Frontier have enough value?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier is value-packed with an upscale interior. There are leather-wrapped surfaces that are soft to the touch and other upscale items that replaced hard plastics in the outgoing model.

Also, the zero gravity seats are large, supportive, and comfortable. They offer a wide range of adjustments. The rear seat is a little tight but offers a good amount of comfort for passengers.

The 9.0-inch infotainment screen has crisp, modern graphics and works quickly. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Plus, you can opt for a wireless phone charging pad, USB-C port, and house-hold style outlets.

We understand that it has some fierce competition, but it provides a smooth ride, it’s fun to drive, it has off-roading chops, you get advanced tech, and a high-quality interior. It’s a well-rounded truck that deserves your attention.
