Let’s explore hybrid vehicle maintenance in a popular model. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is one of the best-selling SUVs available, but is it worth it down the line? Let’s see how much it costs to replace the battery.

How much does it cost to replace the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid battery?

Replacing the battery in the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid may cost between $3,000 to $8,000 depending on your make, model, location, and part availability. Replacing the battery in a used hybrid battery may cost between $1,500 to $3,000.

So, replacing the RAV4 Hybrid battery has the potential to be extremely expensive or moderate depending on quality.

Replacing the RAV4 Prime Hybrid battery costs about $10,323. But the Prime is a plug-in hybrid vehicle or a PHEV, so it has a more intense battery and hybrid setup.

Also, you shouldn’t have to worry about replacing the hybrid battery very often. Most hybrid batteries last between eight to 10 years. Some even make it to 15 years. Most models make it between 100,000 to 150,000 miles before needing a new battery.

Plus, according to Toyota, the RAV4 Hybrid warranty covers the battery and other hybrid components for the first 10 years of ownership or 150,000 miles. That’s excellent coverage

A few tips to improve battery life and range include avoiding extreme temperatures. Sweltering hot days and frigid winter temperatures can strain the battery.

Also, charging the battery to its full capacity frequently can lead to degradation. Using a Level 2 charger instead of a DC fast charger is recommended when temperatures are below freezing.

The 2024 RAV4 Hybrid pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a 245V lithium-ion battery to generate 219 hp and 163 lb-ft of torque.

It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds which is pretty good for its class. That’s plenty of power for passing others and merging into traffic.

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 41 mpg in the city and up to 38 mpg on the highway. RWD models can travel up to 580 miles between fill-ups and models with AWD have a range of about 536 miles.
