Chrysler is down to a single model in 2024, the Pacifica minivan, with hype about several electric models on the way. The good news is that with the reveal today of the 2024 Peugeot E-3008 EV SUV, we get a sneak peek at what one of those Chrysler EVs will look like in either 2025 or 2026. And we can extrapolate what’s underneath to predict a lot about the first new Chrysler in a long time.

The Peugeot E-3008 EV is the first of what will be a steady stream of variants using the electric STLA Medium platform. With Stellantis having so many brands to feed, others besides Chrysler will be getting it, too. But we’ll focus on Chrysler because if there is one brand under the Stellantis umbrella that needs something, anything new, it’s Chrysler.

What EV power options and ranges would the Chrysler SUV have?

Peugeot will offer three trims, mostly based on EV power options, starting with the Electric 210. With 207 hp from its single motor, its 73 kWh battery gives it 326 miles of range. Next up is the Electric 320 Long Range. Its 98 kWh motor offers drivers up to a 435-mile range.

Then there is the top-tier Electric 320, the performance version of the trio. It has dual motors, giving it all-wheel drive. At 240 kW for 316 hp, it goes from zero to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds. Not exactly a barn burner, but it shares the Electric 210’s range of 326 miles.

Will the new Chrysler SUV only be an EV?

But the STLA Medium platform is versatile enough to also feature hybrid and PHEV power under the 3008 moniker. But Peugeot says they won’t be here for another year or two. So Chrysler’s version will offer the same three powertrains, but it is unknown if it will stagger them as Peugeot is doing.

As for design, we expect that the Chrysler version will have a similar fastback SUV upper, with different sheet metal below the windows. It could also possibly carry over the hood and door skins, with the only real changes affecting the fascia, front fenders, and taillights. After all, Stellantis doesn’t offer Peugeot products in North America, so similarities won’t be apparent.

What about inside?

Inside, we like the flat panel angularity as well as the breakup from using a number of different upholstery materials. If it were to carry over to the Chrysler version, we would not be upset. The dash features a 21-inch curving Panoramic i-Cockpit display.

Cargo capacity is 18.4 cubic feet, though with the extra motor in the Electric 320, capacity diminishes slightly. And it likely won’t have a frunk. The wheelbase extends to 107.8 inches, which should add up to decent legroom for the two-row SUV.

So, as a preview of a new electric Chrysler, it pushes all the right buttons—a sporty SUV with plenty of powertrain options, mostly of the electric kind. A new design language, along with modern features inside, should bring some much-needed energy to the moribund brand. At least, we hope.
